As I told you the last time I posted, about a year ago that we'd be growing fast and doing better than most.
Well I was wrong, we're the fastest growing developed economy and socialist france is going down the toilet.
I remember people laughing when I said we'd grow over 1% - we're on track to grow over 2% .
All indicators in right direction, sadly all welsh public services down pan due to labour welsh assembly incompetence.
But that'll never change, I realise that.

Still a very fragile recovery with the cost of living rising and wages flatlining people still have (or at least feel they have) no money to spend on "luxuries".

Absolutely and too dependent on consumption as the trade figures have proven, however I do believe strongly we've got the right balance on fiscal policy.
It's a long road ahead and in a few years everyone will benefit I'm certain.
I think the problem for both right/left in recent decades has been short-termism. We must move away from this and towards a model that is built on long-term 'investment.'
That what saddens me in the debate today even now we still talk in short-termist language when we should be looking fundamentally at the role of the State and how we 'earn our way' in the World.
I do believe though for that to truly happen we need to run budget surpluses. If labour want to maintain a high spending economy, they have to tax higher and the tories must only reduce taxes when it is possible.

Measuring GDP to decide whether a country is in a good state or not is pretty simplistic.
Fact is that a 'recession' caused by the richest in our society, benefited the richest in our society. The poorer are far poorer, cost of living versus income has seen massive changes.
You cannot simply say that our GDP is growing faster than France and therefore we are right, GDP doesn't take into account people, it simply takes into account money. And not who has it? If the top 5% of the country earn an extra 1% and the bottom 5% lose and extra 1% then the GDP will go up, a lot. Don't make it a better country |  |

France has unemployment levels above 11% and this is structural i.e. it won't shift in a boom.
As I've highlighted we have many issues that need to be tackled over longer term.

No we're not - it wasn't long ago Germany was considered the 'sick man of Europe' but it made some big structural reforms while we binged on a consumer boom.

Bolux they still have manufacturing, ours is ebbing away fast and is becoming customer service lead in the main.

I know I get pilloried for it on here (enemy of my class or whatever) but we need to be more focused on boosting private capital in South Wales, that's our problem. I don't mean to slight people in the public sector, many of my friends and family work in the public sector and they play a valuable part in our economy but we do need to have more emphasis on enterprise and wealth creation. Well Tata Steel is still on its knees and are making massive cuts in the first few months of the new year, that means its customer base must also be suffering a down turn, but yep manufacturing is booming 
Only thing that's booming is call centre's. |  |

We manufacture weapons, sell them to dodgy countries, go to war with them, force another leadership onto them and then sell them new weapons. Oh and we also manufacture medicines, which we sell to the Red Cross and what not who go out to the countries we bomb. | |
