Capability Brown was one of many famous people to live in Hammersmith. He lived by the riverside and there's a sculpture of him just near the Blue Boat pub.
I'd hate to see Royal Mail fold. Postmen are part of the landscape. Nearly always friendly and chirpy and since the days of Rowland Hill, as English as canal water. I still shove a tenner in a xmas card and give it to our bloke.
It's difficult to find superlatives enough to praise him. On a bleak day, it restores some belief. Recently we had the man on the train at Peterborough, he was wounded too. Going back, the man on London Bridge and don't forget the Millwall fan that confronted that maniac in Borough market.
It does look bleak for pubs. I'm told many young people have signally failed their forebears by being TT (for shame). And of course a sizeable portion of the populace won't touch alcohol at all (for shame). I wonder when the ten quid pint will arrive.
