Thread | Comparing Championship Squads 2011/2018

When we won promotion in the 2011 play off final against Reading our team was as follows...
Swansea: De Vries, Rangel, Monk, Williams, Tate, Dyer, Britton, Dobbie, Allen, Sinclair, Borini.
Subs: Ma-Kalambay, Pratley, Beattie, Serran, Moore, Gower, Richards.
I know the Championship will have changed since then but I thought it was interesting to look at the make up of our team and squad and compare to where we are now.
Squad back then had 36 in it, 9 of which you would probably consider youth players at the time (not including the likes of Shaun Mac). Of the remaining 27 seniors, 11 were acquired on a free and our most expensive signing was Craig Beattie at £800k.
As I've said, you cant make a straight up comparison to the Championship today but it just shows what can be achieved with the right manager, system and scouting set-up. Of course we also had momentum and positivity around the club.

... for me was around 85mins I think, Liverpool were creeping up to our box, quick turn from Lallana I think it was and a low hard ball played up to the edge of the area into a crowd of red shirts. I was expecting a turn and shot or flick...
... through the mass of players comes this enormous white shirt as super Mike launches forward to intercept and pass the ball upfield.
That was the moment I had real hope we would hold on as I screamed at the telly |

Gylfi (though his current form is v poor)
Leon (age obviously a factor)
Fabianski
Kingsley is showing potential and hopefully Baston and Mawson will add something
But that's it
In previous years there's always been at least half the team I'd have hated to leave.
Too many players that are just meh |
