"Called out to the police station in the middle of the night to bail out the errant child you cannot help but love. Why do you do this to us?" Ain't that the truth? But they showed us why we love them in the end. |

Excellent "View from" this month, really enjoyed that. ericgen: warburton's are a widely available purveyor of baked goods in the UK. Though personally I lay off their bread (which if you are French will not impress you) and stick to their very decent crumpets. |
| News Comment | Lambert facing uphill battle to save Ipswich - Interview at 00:51:55
I don't suppose many here have much nice to say about Paul Lambert but that was really interesting thread about what he is doing at Ipswich. I quite like both East Anglian clubs, so good luck to Ipswich in the New Year. But I want three points off them on Boxing Day and if their keeper can throw three shots from Eze into the net to boost his confidence that'd do nicely. |
| News Comment | QPR go three for three at expense of Villa and Terry - Report at 20:08:22
Top three comments this week: 1. The Leistner charge 2."If there’s ever been a more Sunday league moment in the professional game than Scowen climbing out of the dugout with his kit all over the place, necking a can of Red Bull, to go on and man mark a young lad with an outlandish haircut, fake tan and spray on shorts then I haven’t seen it" 3. Grealish's shorts/VAT We probably ought to hold some sort of end of season competition for zingers. |

Great piece as usual. I've been really disappointed with the direction McClaren's taken but even I have to admit that the obvious transfer business was to strengthen central defence and get a goal-scorer in, and under our FFP punishment loans seem the only way. Trouble is that means we really have to play them, not just have them strengthening the squad. I query signing two strikers and one central defender, with Smyth and Eze (plus BOS, Pav, and Chair available in the wide roles that Smyth and Eze may get pushed into while Hemed and Wells occupy the centre) I'd have gone the other way round. Still really peed off about the Manning loan too. |

Excellent and spot on about the manager and youth team. If Manning, Shodipo and/or Furlong get a go this year and disappoint I think we need to remember how they've ben treated. I'm not saying they should all have been starting regularly but if we are going down this route of developing our own players there has to be a system to it, not just chucking the kids in, building them up, and then bombing them out for not being the complete article. I'd expect all three of those to have gone backwards but the potential they showed means they could still go forwards if they are treated right. |

Never understood why we sold him, seemed crazy at the time and only got more so afterwards, so it's nice to hear him with just good things to say about QPR |
| News Comment | The 5th annual LFW deadline day brunch and barbecue spectacular - Live Blog at 11:19:53
Matt Smith may have gone to Pates school in Cheltenham but it isn't private, its a state grammar - my daughter goes there and I can promise you that if the fees were 50p a week I couldn't afford them right now. It is however quite posh as rich skinflints have worked out that the education is better than most public schools and so sending your kids there saves you a fortune. Its ferociously competitive which suggests that he is (whisper it) actually quite bright. Probably what makes him so slow, brain still engaged with 12th century Latvian literature or something instead of actual football. |

Those tweets are utterly, utterly shocking. I know there are always idiots about but I never expected to read anything like that. |

"Football supporters have quietly moved from abusing the opposition for being the opposition, to abusing their own team for not justifying the outlay to come and watch them." And from that, and above all the causes that lie behind it that you raise, you have pretty much everything wrong with English football. |

I was not aware of how much we owed to Nick de Marco. Vote of thanks to him from me. Massive massive thanks to Ale Faurlin, a true gent and fine player |
