I think that's right. Over the last 18 months we've not exactly been solid when trying to defend. I think all those defeats will have left some scars. So used to conceding goals that some kind of panic will set in when under sustained attack. |

I think some people want jam on it. Rarely does any team plays brilliantly for 90 mins. Energy has to be managed and when you get a 3 goal lead, it's natural and probably sensible to reserve resources a little. And there's always another team on the pitch. WBA upped their game and then their energy and confidence increased further as they started scoring. I'm pretty confident about the Norwich game. They've improved a bit but they're sill not great. |

Old habits die hard? It's not a bad skill to be able to play the ball out of defence and the joy with Tonda is that we can then also link that into quick aggressive attacks with many players involved. It not surprising that we sometimes default to old ways ways of playing. It's still all good. To be honest the transformation is unbelievable. |

Tonda needs to do whatever he wants to do. 6 wins in your first seven is pretty special at any level and this is not an easy league. |

I'm loving the fact that people are talking about us as having the bones of good PL team. Let's not get carried away. And let's get promoted before we start worrying about next year. Keep going as we are and we should definitely make the play offs again. That would be a massive result after the damage Will Still inflicted. |

I guess I get the concerns about his age and relative inexperience, but you can't argue with 5 wins out of 6 and having turned us from basket cases to winners. I'm delighted he's been given the job permanently. |

60s and 70s were a golden age - Hill, Stewart,Clark, Lauda, Hunt. I had a friend who was a mad Ferrari fan and the first Championship I can really remember was probably Piquet in 1981. I went to a few UK Grands Prix in the mid-80s, watching Prost, Senna and later Mansell, but then it dropped off a bit for me. Especially during those periods of domination by e.g. Schumacher, Hamilton etc. I still enjoy watching on the TV but it's so polished now (and this year's tight finished feels very dodgy!) |

Wow. That's some F1 spectator pedigree. What was your favourite F1 era ? |

That's a shame,Jelly. I assumed you had your finger on all secretive fixes and manipulations, especially where big money and the MSM were involved. |

Exactly. The two Championship leaders, the disqualification allowed Verstappen to catch them both up! |
 | Forum Thread | Is Formula 1 bent? at 22:15 1 Dec 2025
It seems very convenient to me that Formula 1 reaches its climax next weekend with three drivers still in contention for the title. Oscar Piastri was storming along in the Championship and then inexplicably went off the boil which allowed Lando Norris to catch up and then take over the title lead. Then both Piastri and Norris get disqualified in the same race, allowing Verstappen to catch up. Then suddenly Piastri finds his form again this weekend just gone. It all feels very fishy to me. Over to you Jelly to fill in the gaps for me. |

Do they still sing along to ''...we all go down to The De-en' when they score? |
 | Forum Reply | What was Bazunu doing for their winning goal ? at 19:59 30 Nov 2025
I think Bazuna only looked good during the long unbeaten run under Martin. And then again when we win 4 on the bounce he looks OK. The conclusion is that he looks good when he hasn't got too much to do. Generally, he just lets in far too many goals where we're left asking 'couldn't he have done better with that. The odd acrobatic saves he makes flatter to descieve. |

It's a good problem to have but it's tricky... He's done really really well in these 5 games - brilliantly on Saturday - but it's only three games and maybe Still was just so awful that pretty much anyone would have achieved a turnaround in these three games?? (But 5-0 up in the first half is pretty special). But that's a big call to drop a guy that's doing so well - particularly given the risk that the next replacement will be another Jones or Still. Then there's the fact that if drops back to the U21s, on the one hand the Club will have a great interim manager all ready to go, if another permanent appointment fails. But on the other, the 'bring back Tonda' chants will come quickly if someone else comes in and has a rocky start. And then there's the fact that everyone else looking for a new manager can also see the results he's had. I think we have to stick with him and I have high hopes that he will turn out to be a real winner. I guess he'll be happy to keep going in interim charge for now, but at some point his agent will be asking questions about money and contracts. But well done Tonda for bringing a bit of light back to St Mary's. (It's also interesting how the signings of Jander, Fellows and Azaz are all now looking good ones (alongside Scienza). Tonda is shining a good light on Spors too.) |

If he wins those two and makes is four on the bounce, then he probably should be. |

The more charitable interpretation is that they've finally learned a bit of humility. Not appointing another left field loser straight away and also sticking with a guy that's actually winning games, suggests to me that they are being very pragmatic for the first time in a long time and recognising that all their previous decisions and 'plans' have been comical. Having got it so wrong so many times recently I really don't mind if they want to take stock a little, recognise that they kept making the same mistakes, and try to work out a more sensible approach to finding long term success. |
