The whole fiasco has exposed the fault that in this country top level cricket is becoming more elitist. Australia has a tenth of the population but anyone can play at school. The lack of preparation has been evident again; the bulk of the Australian team played three or four Sheffield Shield games before the series started. The disdain with which the ECB hierarchy treat red ball cricket is another contributory factor.
It would take a massive transfer fee for either club to part with a player. Neither are skint. If anything they’re more likely to take out the cheque book themselves.
Does normal test batting include getting out trying to reverse sweep Lyon as Brook did and then standing there in a state of bewildered entitlement. Crazy shot. As an aside this was apparently the first time that Brook and Crawley have batted together in a test match.
271-4…….. Another century for Head and 52 not out for Carey. Australia lead by 356. England are going to have to bat all day tomorrow to save this one presuming Australia declare any time soon. If they bat on the target could even be 500. Frightening gulf between the teams.
They may have been so many postponements at Firgrove 40 and 50 years ago because there was a distinct policy that if one of the pitches was unfit then all games scheduled for that day were postponed. This was to prevent squabbling about “why aren’t we playing when their game two pitches away is going ahead”.
Big interview with BBM in today’s Guardian as Cardiff play Chelsea in the League Cup this week. Quite a good read with several Dale mentions. Wish I could do the link.
A few people on social media are asking the pertinent question as to how the man was appointed in the first place? Can the Head of Football Operations and certain board members stay in place?
Absolute sickener for the lad. His birthday today as well so not the best of presents. Might mean a slight change in the way we play from the back as well. Tutonda and Galvin presumably favourites to replace him.
The final straw for me was the FIFA “Peace Prize”. The sports washing of Qatar and Saudi Arabia was bad enough. And we thought things were bad under Blatter.
