Apologies if somebody's posted this already, but I've recently been watching the Big Match Revisited on ITV4 and stumbled across an episode with highlights from U's v Bradford at Layer Road, May 1977.

Here's the link if anybody would like to relive some memories!

Your favourite moment of the season
at 23:08 3 Jul 2020

Though the disappointment of missing out on promotion remains, perhaps we can look back on some of the fond moments of the past season as the dust settles. What was your favourite moment of the 2019/20 season?

I'll start: mine was the 3-1 win against Swindon at home. I'd had one of my worst ever working days and had really felt like jumping in the car and driving home. However, I knew all I'd do is dwell on the day and there was always the potential that the football might lift my spirits (it could have also made me feel even worse, so it was a big gamble). I hadn't seen a U's goal in front of me in the South Stand all season I don't think, so when Norris headed in the equaliser in the second half right under my nose, I was elated. The U's onslaught to come, with quickfire Theo goals to send us from a 0-1 defeat to a glorious 3-1 victory, was incredible. For everything that had happened that day, I celebrated those goals harder than I'd celebrated a U's goal since following the club and just that bit more than Tom's penalty against Spurs.

Was the 70s and 80s the golden era of football? Talk by Essex Uni researchers
at 08:36 27 Jun 2020

Hi all,

History Indoors is an organisation run by researchers from the University of Essex providing free history talks to the general public during the lockdown on Zoom. Our next talk on Wednesday looks at whether the pre-Premier League 1970s and 80s was a golden era or not. Terracing and affordable ticket prices versus racism and hooliganism?

This might be interesting for U's fans to think back on the days of Layer Road. Do you remember the 70s and 80s fondly for football, or are things better today overall?

The talk is at 2pm and 7pm on Wednesday 1st July. You can find out more and sign up here: https://historyindoors.co.uk/talk/the-golden-age-english-football-before-the-pre

Thanks guys,
Steven :)

Cambridge Away
at 22:32 16 Jan 2020

Evening all. Cambridge away will officially be my first U's away game and planning to buy my ticket at the ticket office on Saturday ahead of the Macclesfield game. Has anybody used the Park and Ride before on Newmarket Road on previous trips to the Abbey Stadium? If so, does it fill up early? Also how many fans do you think we'll bring along?

FA Cup 1st Round Draw
at 09:19 20 Oct 2019

Who would we all like to get in Monday night's draw?

For me, I don't care who it is as long as it's a home tie. As it stands I won't be able to get to the Community Stadium again until the Carlisle game on Dec 21st, so I'm desperately hoping it's a home fixture so I can see us play before then! Otherwise, an away tie at Lincoln or Boston Utd, so I can combine it with a trip to see my mum in Grantham.

Saturday’s Big Feature: Robbie Cowling
at 14:31 22 Sep 2019

Did anyone read Robbie Cowling’s Big Feature in Saturday’s programme? I thought it was very interesting, especially his comments on Bury and how clubs like the U’s and Notts County suffered as a result of their mismanagement. He said he’ll announce an incentive next month to increase the matchday atmosphere.

If anyone didn’t see it I’m happy to upload images of the article.

Colchester United, History and the Community
at 08:20 15 Mar 2019

Morning all!

As many of you know I've only been following the U's for the past 12 months and have only moved/worked in the area since November. I was wondering whether any of you could share your thoughts/knowledge on how connected you feel the club is to the community, its own history and the history of the town. The reason I ask is that I noticed in the match day programme that there are few features/nods to the club or the town's past. Brighton regularly do features in their matchday programmes focusing on games gone by in the 70s and 80s. Then I began wondering how connected the town are to the team. For example, I see few ties between the University (a big player in the town I gather) and the club. But this could all be due to my ignorance of having only resided in the area for a very short period of time, and only going to games and reading matchday programmes in the past 12 months.

I am hoping to start my PhD in History at Essex Uni in September so I do love a bit of history, especially when it's related to football, so whatever light you guys can shed would be really interesting!

Lincoln away tickets?

Anyone know when the Lincoln City away tickets will go on sale? Or is it pay on the gate? Mum lives in Lincolnshire and has her birthday following week so I'm considering coinciding visiting her with my second ever U's game.

Brighton fan in peace - my first U's game v Yeovil
at 21:49 21 Mar 2018

Brighton fan in peace! I've been a lifelong Albion fan, growing up in Sussex (but currently live in Coventry) but my wife's family are all from the Colchester/Clacton area, so I went to my first U's game on Saturday against Yeovil whilst she was at a hen do. Must admit, it felt very weird wearing a non-Brighton piece of clothing (it was so freezing I couldn't help but buy a U's hat) but I had a thoroughly enjoyable experience, minus the result. Stewards very friendly, nice family feel in the concourses and got chatting to a lovely bloke who gave me the lowdown on the U's and the current struggles you're facing. I felt weirdly at home, most likely because I was born into this world following the Albion when they had just lost the Goldstone and were in the bottom division.

Anyway, we're planning to move to Essex within the year so I'm hoping to take myself, and Godwilling our kids in the future, to further games at the WHCS. :) Hope you have a strong end to the season and see you next year!
