Fair argument, because how thing turned out, we kind of think JS messed up
But unfortunately for JS he doesn’t have this clairvoyant with hindsight evaluation to make his decisions before the match.
How, if you are a better writer than Clive, could you come up with a narrative that
1, we lose Vale before a ball is even kicked
2, conceded a 20 sec howler, and the mistake made by our most reliable player,
3. had a player sent with the match 15 mins old, and
4. Conceded a second goal with 70 minutes of football still to be played
Fate is pretty unkind to our gaffer, methinks, in this match we all think should’ve been 3 points, not exactly a walk in the park, but a win is on the cards surely?
So it is understandable for JS to start Scarlett in this match, it is not no pressure game, I agree, but the stage is set for a highly rated player not yet 17 to get his first 11 debut. I would think so.
Now, I wouldn’t argue with your post match analysis, but here we are looking at a coach who has been highly successful in his career coaching young talents that he actually nurtured, brought on the big stage and went off to better things, and his success with Rennes, Strasbourg etc. Why would we think we are better or more experienced to run QPR’s first teams and making those hard and calculated decisions?
It is a spectacular match how his initial decisions did not paid off, but my word, did our team came back fighting and forced a result that wasn’t the end of the world. I think they too were overwhelmed by those events and went a bit lost and downtrodden but the rejuvenated second half performance with immense sense of self-belief and unyielding energy just told me so much of my team, where many have agreed teams of the past would have just melted and gave up without a fight, but not this bunch, with that performance, we take heart, build on it and turn this into a successful and rewarding season. 1. I think he thought Kamara could do Madsen’s job and Madsen could do Vale’s, so Varane came in as a defensive cover. Didn’t work
2. JCS playing time is being managed, if Dunne and Edward are fit, JCS would be cover
3. Well it’s Preston ain’t it, thinking of course to unleash a young keen player for his first start, who knows down to 10 men before the hour. Again, Saito and Smyth playing time are also managed but with the sending off the plan backfired. Young Scarlett has to be taken off after a terrible first half by the whole team. That’s sensible. |

According to the line up in fotmob, Varane replaced Vale before the start and Vale went straight back to the bench, no new player came onto the bench |

Alright, there is no need to slate Lloyd who is our player. You can call out his miss chances, but at this moment in time most of our players are misfiring, no one can ignore the fact we are one of the championship side with the most shots, touches in the box but with a poor conversion rate and the least goal scored amongst the top 6 (on par with WBA).
Now to compare him to a canine is not just unhelpful but demeaning and degrading, even if you have a pure intention and mean no malice, but in a Lloyd “bashing” thread the irony is not lost, you should choose your words and convey what you mean with thoughtfulness. No need to use an animal for comparison, Lloyd is our player!
So in a nutshell, Lloyd
- is all about running and boundless enthusiasm with no end product
- got into good positions and scoring chances but always missed
- is never better than Kolli although the latter doesn’t play and/or train well (I know this thread does not bring out Kolli but we know the OP agenda)
- played 70 games scoring a few goals with 4% (sic) conversion rate and is the last striker you would bring on if chasing a game, even behind a “player” who never in the squad or I dare say, a much less sighted Obikwu
- had lots of play time but never a championship level player, at least not now (for some is never)
So we need a striker that has Burrell’s pace, Kolli’s shooting ability, Lloyd’s work rate Kone’s hold up play and Obikwu’s legendary abilities yet to be determined.

“We should never be in that position” is I how I see it. That sets the “context”
We showed lots of character and belief, but our undoing was a poor start compounded by a sending off and quickly followed by conceding a second
That should never be allowed to happen with a team aiming for top 6 playing a bottom managerless team at home
I can see why some felt it was 2 points lost more than one point gained
If we are still having so many chances, shots and touches in the box without converting them into goals, that poor first 20 minutes is criminal.
We are shooting ourselves in the foot
But what to unpack overall is we managed to dig ourselves out of the hole with belief, character and strength to not lose
In this early days, that to me is a massive positive but please, please learn from this. [Post edited 19 Sep 22:42]

Do you agree with that?
The team did very well to come back from 2 down and one man short to secure a point. But totally harsh to say Alfie lost us 2 points. He should have scored but he didn’t cost us the game

I’m not sure JS definition of work hard in training must mean doing lots of running. Some players will never survive training like that, JCS springs to mind
Work hard can mean
- be punctual
- focused and being positive
- receptive to being coached and willingness to learn
- work on fitness and stamina
- work on team strategies and teamwork
- do extra training if one is miles off
- etc etc
Every player, regardless of position and role in team should be taken on the same standard reflected above - train well and train hard? Yes, absolutely
JS said Scarlett deserved to be selected. And I can’t see that means he did lots of non stop running
And when you think about Kolli, his fitness, work rate and team play during matches, one will be intrigued.

If we get promoted, a big IF but nonetheless attainable, I am guessing our players values will see an instant markup premium

Is Dom Ballard any good, 23 goals in 44 games for Leyton Orient last season in league one? Any better than Lloyd, who played on loan for Lincoln, and won promotion? Them two, now playing again in the same league, who’s better?
Wonder if there’s any League one prospect à la an Ollie Watkins?
The talk of another striker will be deferred till January transfer window, we will have to make do with what we have,
There’s talk of a new signing, the Obikwu, yet to grace Loftus Road |

Lloyd is a forward not a striker per se so expecting him to score 10 goals every season to judge him is unfair
Granted he should be scoring the goals those easy chances, but the way we are playing at the moment it will come, same for Kone.
It is something like Kakay, a limited player a lot would say out of his depth and not quite championship, but they always put in a hard honest shift and fight for the badge. What’s not like if you have some of these as squad players and will try to do a job everytime the manager ask of them |

I think Kone is the only "true"striker in the squad
Burrell is played on the wing, or off the striker (Kone) if it is 2 man upfront
Lloyd is more of a forward, not a central striker, and he doesn't score many as many pointed out
Kolli, there is still debate where his best position is, but basically a forward player but is rarely fit
So do we lack a striker*, or, do we need one more?
* in CM games, that is the player with the position "SC" |

Questions like this, needs to be asked.
If any one of them, touch wood, gets injured, we will be beating ourselves till January
While goals are coming from all over the team, thank goodness, but a team seriously aiming for 8th should have a prolific striker or two
I never doubt their abilities, but rather I can’t help myself thinking the unthinkable being a QPR fan… |

I am not pressing the panic button yet but none of our strikers have scored 3 games in
Mind we are playing well but in the final third our strikers were found wanting, asking all the questions but no answer
Is it a concern? Bolton match seems to suggest that, we had plenty of opportunities but couldn’t put the ball in the net
With Kolli out of favour and Obikwu years away?
A premier league loan maybe? |
