I think they’re waiting to see what impact a certain points deduction would have. A 12 point deduction puts them in the relegation zone. Watch them wait and then award a deduction that has no material impact, just moves them down to 19th or something. |

Exactly. But he had a crucial hand in both goals today, which is great to see. |

There is something a bit classy about Vale. He has had some dreadful games. And he isn’t the most athletic, but he can see and execute a pass and he has a great shot on him. I have had a feeling go a while that could be Madsen’s back up, either when Burrell is back or Chair is to a lot into that 10 role. Was it a traditional 4231 today, or more of a 4411, with Vale off Kone? Be good to know as I couldn’t make it. With Charlton and Blackburn up next, there is genuine potential for 6 points, which would put us on the cusp of the play offs before our tough run in begins. But that gives us something to play for and changes the dynamics of those tougher games. |

Interesting! That tells me Stephan wants to stick with Cook and Dunne at centre half, and that’s why Edwards hadn’t played yet. Might intimate wasn’t that fussed about signing him, but let’s park that. Great win. You have to hand it to Steve Cook. I know he’s playing for a last contract somewhere, but he’s been very good for quite a few games now. He’s played himself into Stephan’s first choice centre half pairing, hasn’t he? Sounds like Madsen’s rebirth continues apace. Like you, one of his biggest critics last season, but what a turnaround. Fair play to him. Sounds like he was superb again. Kone’s return to form is the most important thing all round though. For the run in, for his value, for the rest of the side. |

Couldn’t make it today. Great to hear about the performance, Mart. It sounds like, and looked from the highlights like, Kone was back to his best today. That is great to hear. How were Cook and Edwards at centre half, and Dunne at right back? Did it work? |

You’re right in terms of what the more sustainable, sensible long term approach is. And you’re right that there are more expensively assembled squads in the league, most obviously the parachute teams. And you’re right that some other non-parachute clubs have been spending, most notably the Hollywood duo of Brum and Wrexham. But don’t mistake us for some pauper. We have spent a lot of money on transfer fees the past 18 months (some £25m). And all these players aren’t joining us for pennies. We are paying serious salaries too. I think this will become very apparent in the accounts for this season released in March 2027. The accounts released soon for last season will be interesting, but I expect them to look okay. It’s this season where we’ve really started to try to compete financially. Poku and Kone signed for us over others, and you’d have to be a little naive to think it’s anything other than salary as the main driving force behind that. We’re not really much different these past two seasons to the middle of the pack in the league on spend, such as Derby, Millwall, Bristol City, Watford, Stoke, West Brom, Hull, Swansea, Boro even. And there are the likes of Preston, Pompey, Oxford, who’ve spent less. We don’t have a god given right to be top half or super competitive on our spend. But, it’s certainly not an excuse not to be. Didn’t they change the catering contractor at the end of last season? Or did they run an RFP and keep the exiting provider? Anyone remember? I’m sure they went to market. I remember Nourry referencing this in an answer saying how the catering side of things would improve as a result of the exercise. |

Can anyone explain to me how Derby have built such a good squad, with so much attacking depth, so quickly? Where does their money come from? At the end of the summer, after they signed Carlton Morris, I had a small dabble in the handicap market on them, so thought they’d go well as a surprise package, but they look electric here. Eustace…oh my, what a missed opportunity for this club. |

I think there was a Head of Operations but they sacked him/let him go/be moved on. I’m sure I heard somewhere he was Nourry’s brother-in-law too. Apologies if that is incorrect. Fair play for exiting your brother-in-law! Less well done for hiring him. We have traditionally had a Head of Operations, I believe. |

It’s such a strange article. It doesn’t say why they are inviting questions. To what end? What is the purpose? And what happens to the question submitted? Will they be answered? When? How? Will all/any of the questions and answers be made public? Will the club self select the questions a they wish to answer or commit to answering all questions? On the face of things, it’s good they are inviting questions, but as ever true intention and effectiveness, depends on how you execute it. If this just turns into an exercise where they self select a handful of teed up questions (e.g. Safe standing has been such a success, do you plan to roll out any more?”) then it’s nothing more than a self promoting PR exercise. Hopefully it’s not that… |

What is wrong with signing RND permanently (if the fee is reasonable). As we’ve seen for the last decade, I really don’t think we’ll find better than him at an affordable price. We hadn’t in the decade before. He’s not perfect and we shouldn’t break the bank to sign him. But I wouldn’t be upset if we did for a reasonable fee. Got to sell someone if we’re going to keep signing players… |

Possibly for the 2019-20 season, yes. Although he had Hugill and Wells up top and a pretty strong first team. And he had Eze at his peak for us. But for 2020-21 and 21-22, we’d sold Eze, invested some of that into the playing squad, brought in 4 big salary loans half way through the 20-21 season, and then made them permanent in the summer for that big play off gamble. I think those two years are quite similar and the most comparable to the situation Nourry has had last season, this season, and will be in next season. Broadly comparable and more so than other years in recent memory, so I stick by my assertion that a top half finish should be the target this year, and play offs next. If we fall well short of top half this season (hopefully not!), I think you’d have to judge that as poor. Although I agree with others that full judgment can’t really come until towards the end of the 26/27 season. By then we’ll know whether we’ve progressed on the pitch and whether his player trading model is working, and where the finances are at. |

It is what Brentford did. Think it was Maupay they sold for big money, replaced with Watkins, replaced with Toney (and promotion). Might have the order wrong. And there might have been someone before Maupay. They also did similar with centre haves, I believe. Their access to data, and especially Brighton’s through Tony Bloom’s betting set up, is miles ahead of anyone else’s, including us. That’s where the risk comes in. And, as I keep saying, whether it’s right or depressing, by taking an amortisation approach to transfer fees spent, it is a MUST that you sell players for decent money every year. No other options. |

Yeah, agree with you on all of that. A decade on and in the same position, although we should be looking up not down now, whereas ten years ago due to the challenges discussed, it did feel like we had to look down. I also think it’s interesting going back to the 19-20, 20-21, and 21-22 seasons, under Warburton (with Les as DOF and Hoos as CEO), when we finished 13th, 9th and 11th. Again, are we any further on, on the pitch? I don’t think we should be doing worse this year and next. Personally think we should be around that level this year as a minimum, and actually pushing higher next year. Let’s see. |
