Surely, Sheffield United will be hugely disadvantaged as they are playing a tough game tonight with only two days' recovery plus probably travelling down on Friday, before facing us on Saturday. No! [Post edited 25 Feb 20:53]

Juat looked at the number of goals scored by the highest-scoring forwards in the championship to date. Vipotnik aside, whose 16 goals have all been without penalties, Kone compares favourably with the likes of H Wright, A Armstrong and McBurnie in the absence of penalties scored. All of whom would be on 10 goals.
Kone now has 7 goals in the league and this is his first season at this level, which is in contrast to the wealth of championship experience of the three mentioned above. A forward who is blessed with the knack of positioning himself in the right areas and is very rarely on his heels like Dykes was. Naturally, he like Burrell, will miss some scoring opportunities.
His ceiling for further growth is high, and he will get a lot better. To think Burrell, injury aside, could be close to mapping the achievements of Vipotnik too, tells me that we have two good forwards on our hands and this bodes well for next season. [Post edited 22 Feb 21:32]

Virtually nothing is inconceivable in this league.
Today's game v Hull is one in which we have to show greater attacking intent. Of the teams we will face in the next five games, they have the most frailties which we can exploit if JS sees it fit to permit his team to show more daring away from home, in spite of their position in the league.
If not, that points differential between us and the likes of Pompey & WBA could tighten over the next five games. |

Agree totally with you.
Also, the number of former rugby league players and coaches who have transferred to the union side is further proof of how many aspects and ideas of league have been co-opted into union.
Lee Radford is currently at Northampton Saints and if you watch them play, the lines they run, their intelligent set plays, forwards with excellent handling skills always expecting the ball, speed of play and their aim is to keep the ball in play for long periods, are all rugby league fundamentals.
I much prefer league but I'm not averse to watching Northampton Saints who are a breath of fresh air in the union code. [Post edited 20 Feb 11:16]

Look at the quality of the young talented players in the Hull City highlights picture.
We may have not got as much as we could have done by way of transfer fees for Manning (270 championship & 24 PL games) and BoS (126 championship, similar number in Turkey, 21 Europa league & 5 Champions League game. The poor treatment by the club playing a contributory role, but that quality of young talent isn't matched by Nourry's current intakes; Morgan excepted to a point.
In fact, it could be argued that the one's that might grow into championship capable players from the current crop, pre-date Nourry: Walsh, Murphy-Cooper, Kolli and perhaps Sutton. . [Post edited 19 Feb 10:55]

Should Norwich stay up! Under Clement, their form is that of a team with aspirations of making the play-off zone. 7 wins, 3 draws & 4 defeats. By the end of the month, they'll in all likelihood be ahead of us.
A team that is now very well managed and plays a possession-based style of football with purpose, which I wish we could replicate. And all that with sideways Sam playing his part in their team!
Please enlighten me on this eye-catching and progressive free-flowing football of ours that was clearly on display on Saturday and the week before against Charlton, now that Field is no more. [Post edited 16 Feb 13:31]

Exactly this. The majority of victories gained in this league are by the odd goal. It's wonderfully idealistic to suggest that it would be great to win by more than one goal, but that's largely the exception not the rule.
Had a quick glance at Millwall's results this season and the odd goal victories predominate. |

I doubt that you're in the minority.
A very good defensive midfield player at this level has been allowed to go out on loan to further strengthen a side that was already strong in that area. Contrary to many misconceptions, he doesn't look out of place in a team that is far better in possession than we are.
Suspect that he shall continue to reliably play his part in Norwich moving above us by the end of this month or early next. [Post edited 15 Feb 22:34]

Kolli for me. Played well against West Ham and after a bad game against Stoke, has been usurped by Bennie!! and a returning Saito, who was poor prior to his minor injury and has largely replicated that poor form since his return. Let's give him a run of games and see how he fares.
Smyth on the right for Bennie who should be nowhere near the first team. Respectfully, Mide Shodipo at the same age as Bennie showed more promise. |

He was at fault for their first goal too, why try and keep the ball in play by blindly kicking the ball over your head by the touchline on the half-way line. A throw-in to Blackburn would have sufficed.
Instead, we lose possession, they transfer the ball to their right and one of their players adroitly nutmegs RND by using his left foot before immediately delivering a dangerous cross from deep with his right foot, for them to then score the opening goal.
Not worth £3m for mine. Too lightweight. as evidenced by the ease at which he was dispossessed for Blackburn's second. Doubtless, he'll start again next week. [Post edited 14 Feb 18:31]

Clearly, that wonderful piece of skill of his when he went down a blind alley and bizzarely dribbled the ball out of play against Charlton, whilst hardly being challenged in the first-half, must have swung it, in yet another non-performance of his.
Kolli has a bad game against Stoke and barely plays again. Saito has has had a series of bad performances, yet is nearly always selected to start the next game. Interesting. [Post edited 14 Feb 14:28]

Femi Azeez for me. Everything that Saito isn't and acquired very cheaply by Millwall at about a third of the price we paid for the privilege of the continuation of more non-performances.
It's a fair comparison as they both embarked on their championship journey at the same time. He comfortably outstripped smiling Saito in his first season by way of goals and assists too. [Post edited 14 Feb 12:37]
