Rather unfortunate for the manager as Oxford have got 16 of their 18 points at home which is a better home record than we have. It seems strange to sack him after losing at home to Sheffield Wednesday. If the Oxford board bothered to look they would have noted the Owls have now won five of their last six away league games, the only blemish being a 1-0 derby defeat to the Blades. I am a bit aggravated that Wednesday have kicked on from their relegation struggles of last season while we are still in the relegation mix. |

I hate these 1230 kick offs we always look half asleep in the first half. Currently no wins this season for any lunchtime game. If Sky want to relegate us next season they should show all our matches live at 1230 as we never seem to play well in early kick offs. My Leeds mate texted me to say their game at Preston was drab. I don't think players like early games as not psyched up enough with less time to prepare. Not only are Sky wrecking things for those who travel to games at silly hours but they are serving up dire tv spectacles with early games. |

I didn't understand Marti after the game talking about 6 minutes added to the first half (as well as 9 to second half) and the Oxford manager claiming they played well in the first half. I can only conclude that both managers fell asleep in that appalling first period and dreamt it all up. |

By playing on the front foot taking the game to a poor side has seen Derby rewarded. This is how we should have gone after Oxford in the first half instead of the slops we served up wasting a half. |

Me too. Once again a poor opponent dragged us down to their level which happens far too often particularly against promoted sides. Thankfully we couldn't get any worse and did wake up in the second half and got a rare win over a team up from league 1. |

The highlight of the first half was the fox in the rafters of the stand. Looks like Leicester have found a novel way to spy on us for the cup tie. |

I must caution people before they get too carried away we have won once in the last 14 games against promoted teams and already lost to Derby and Portsmouth. The worse the opposition, the worse we play seems to be our mantra. With zero away wins this is just the job for Charity Park Rangers to come to Oxford's assistance. |

I never knew this until watching his interview on the EFL Highlights. Top man. Seems to be very popular with his teammates. |

His family will be pleased as he can spend Christmas at home with them as it looks unlikely he will be fit for the rest of the year to be included in the squad. This is bad news for us at least for Oxford. Young Kolli may be knackered after an hour or so and we won't have a striker to bring on in his place. Might not matter if we are two up but if we are drawing or losing it could be a major issue. |

At long last a first win over Norwich since 2018 and a 3pm Saturday home win which we have had to wait since February for. On the evidence of today we could do with a storm blowing for every home game if we can end up 3-0 winners. Three clean sheets in a row too so there is still hope for us. |
| Forum Reply | Everything but the goal - Report at 18:49 1 Dec 2024
The match write ups have frequently been more entertaining than the football and I have never even looked at the player ratings to quibble with. There is no better write ups of games at any club than we see on this site. As for the game yesterday, watching it on TV, the major flaws in our game were highlighted once again by the lack of composure in front of goal. The three big chances we spurned were all around 8 yards from the goal and still we cannot hit the target. The fact is we only had one effort on target again and as Sky highlighted we have have the lowest ratio of on target shots in the whole division. It is this inability to kick the ball directly at an immovable object that will send us down. Time and time again we scuff the shot or belt it into the crowd behind the goal. We have no natural finisher in the team. For sure there seems to be an improvement in the overall play but the end product is painfully weak. I know Celar missed the penalty against Stoke but that can happen to the best. Even Salah blasted a spot kick wide on Wednesday and Mbappe had his saved in the same match. Anyone can miss a spot kick but what we need is players to hit the target in open play as that is where the bulk of the chances come from. As we have seen with other clubs, Middlesborough scored 15 in 3 games and Norwich scored 10 in 2 games because they have players who produce on target efforts on goal. We are chucking away win potential with snatched efforts on goal and when you are on top you have to take gilt edged opportunities. We wasted them at Watford and dropped another two points. |

I think Luton are the same. The main rivalry is between Luton and Watford but fans of both those clubs seem to want to drag us into a three way rivalry with them while to us neither of them are London clubs we are indifferent too. |

Are you sure about that? Only one attempt was on target today which is the same old QPR. We are bottom of the stats for attempts on target in the division to date. Next game is against a team who has scored 10 goals in two matches and a club we have not beaten in the last 9 meetings. Until we start hitting the target more and winning at home will I believe the old QPR has gone. |

Yes that would be something. As soon as his mate Frank gets back in management then Rooney loses his job. I see he made 6 changes from Norwich only for them to have another second half collapse. |

Frustrating not to win after that first half. Shame we didn't have the ref who was at Coventry today and spotted a Cardiff handball at the end to give a penalty. The clown at our game was looking right at the handball yet missed it. We will need to convert our chances against Norwich as they have banged in 10 goals in the last two matches. This suggests they will score against us with our home form so we may need at least two goals to win. Are we capable of that in front of the home fans? |

Think that's twice in a week Argyle have conceded four in the second half. They have suffered 3-0, 4-0 twice, 5-0 and 6-1 away defeats yet are above us in the table which highlights how terrible we have been. To add insult to injury we couldn't beat them with them down to ten. |
| Forum Reply | Fat Frank at 16:21 30 Nov 2024
Think that's rather harsh on Cardiff who now lead 2-1 at Coventry. They have won four games as opposed to our two beating Pompey, Plymouth and Millwall. Three teams we couldn't beat at home. |
| Forum Reply | Rest of the Championship thread at 16:16 30 Nov 2024
Thankfully Swansea have come back from two down against Pompey. Rather annoying the Portsmouth v Millwall game was called off in week as Millwall are 9 unbeaten and in good form. When they do play the rearranged fixture Millwall could have gone off the boil. |
