Five-star Saints whitewash wretched Rangers – Report
at 12:28:56

Cheers Clive, grim stuff and kudos to all you hardy souls who travelled - you deserve much better. Probably a bit harsh on Walsh, a young keeper forced to learn on the job. You said the score could have been much worse, but didn’t mention the couple of fine stops he made - without them it would have been. Of course he should have done better, but I make Dunne equally culpable for the 2nd killer goal and handsome Ron seems to be getting a free pass despite the concession of 5 goals. Let us hope we get the same reaction as we got after Coventry - although it’s going to be much tougher with such a depleted squad.

Bennie’s bat out of Hull, breaking out of his body, and flying away – Report
at 22:56:07

Super work, Clive. I have loved the spontaneous enthusiasm of the young lad’s interviews last year and this.Lloyd after SW, Morgan after Coventry and now Bennie. Sadly, like spontaneous football, they will also be coached on how to be interviewed. ‘Delighted to get over the line’, we move on to the next one’ - delete where appropriate.

The price is right – Preview

Thanks Clive for making the ‘dry’ stuff possible to understand. Basically we have been lied to by the hierarchy which is baffling, insulting and pointless. Todays three points obviously make everything more palatable, but again, no sign of Chair, exactly two months after Christmas.

Another nil nil on the road – Report

Cheers Jamie, great report. Probably a little harsh on Dykes, who I always felt put in a decent shift for us, not least rising from his sick bed to help dig us out of relegation.

The window that was (and wasn’t) – Preview
at 12:23:08

Top quality preview Clive and a collective sigh of relief that the window is closed. I thought we signed Kone before the season started? Obviously not. Worth pointing out that Mbengue’s absence from the playing arena is no guarantee he won’t get booked.

The antidote – Report
at 09:37:58

Super piece, Clive, worthy of the match. Funnily enough, I was trying to guess the title of your report and I had gone with ‘Redemption’ ‘Antidote’ is actually bang on the button, but at least ‘my’ title got mentioned several times. Agree with all the above (except Smyth’s pen and Walsh coming for the Cov cross that led to the goal)and thought Vale’s cross for Bennie with the outside of his foot, was the second single stand out moment (after Kone’s flicked finish) of the game for me. What made it better than Tarrabt’s for me, was the fact that Vale was on the ground having contributed to winning the ball back, got up, spotted Bennie and delivered THAT ball all in one movement. Not going to get carried away, like I did after Leicester, because we know what happens when this team offers hope, but this was very very good indeed,

Coventry's Obikwu brings familiar profile to QPR attack - Signing
at 18:41:11

Welcome Justin and Zac. Cheers Clive. Not a stats person, but the similarities with Burrell are obvious. I would throw him in straight away for 20 -30 minutes at a time. Might have the surprise factor and nothing to lose. Not an area of the pitch that if he loses it, major harm can happen. Not going up or down. Burrell out medium term - perfect time to get some minutes.

Lather, rinse, repeat – Report

Goodness I had no idea that many of ye travelled - kudos to each and every one - you all deserve so much better. Thanks Clive. Not commenting on matches anymore since Portsmouth, except to say WBA 2 QPR 1, WBA 0 Norwich 5. Nuff Said.

And we never spoke of it again – Report
at 23:28:46

Cheers, Clive, sounds like a SU repeat, with some mitigating circumstances this time. luckily for me I missed it. I had to go to mass at exactly 3pm. For an atheist to come to the conclusion that he got the better deal, speaks volumes about the match. Being ‘up in arms’ about a handball, deffo belongs in the corny jokes thread

Ronnie returns, but is it the handsome deal QPR hope? – Signing
at 22:51:00

Super analyses Clive. I have made no secret of my desire to have him here. You mention maybe we should be looking at signing the ‘next’ Edwards. But at not yet 23 and with a lot of games already under his belt, he can be the ‘next’ Edward’s. If he performs like he did for us in the 2nd half of last season (and it wasn’t just the best in the land of the bald, he got called into the England squad based on his form) he will be worth 10-15 m in a years time. You mention also the need of a 5M sale per year. Another way is an ‘Eze’ type sale after 2/3 years - and Edwards could be that man.

Insert paragraph about Barry Bannan – Preview
at 00:02:46

Cheers Clive. Two things: Firstly, I don’t think West Ham’s abysmal form and impending relegation will matter a jot when we play them. It’s almost a carbon copy of last season when we played Leicester, who hadn’t won or even scored for games on end before we played them and we all know how that panned out.
Secondly, I agree with you 100% about the Hull game. With our attack and defence I thought we would have gone all Keeganesque and tried to outscore the oppo in every game. Even if the results were the same but the scores different in the last three games; 3-3 with Portsmouth, 5-4 v WBA and 4-5 against Norwich, it would have been a whole lot more fun to watch. Not likely to happen with an xg of zero I guess.I thought Watford would be similar actually, but they seem to have sorted out their defence.

Nightmare start to the New Year as Norwich beat QPR again - Report
at 21:44:22

Cheers Clive, a very honest assessment of the match and the Xmas period in general. A difficult read and I’m sure difficult to write. A truly horrendous trilogy of match’s. You have often likened supporting QPR to being in an abusive relationship. That just when you are ready to give up on them they throw you a bone (Leicester) and promise things will different from now on. Then, they revert to type. I feel like that at the moment and after 50 years, I should know better. Even if they win by 5 tomorrow, Christmas has been tainted for me QPR wise. Of course if they win the next three, knocking out West Ham in the process…

Chaotic team selection, chaotic outcome as R's slip at West Brom - Report
at 19:55:13

Thanks Clive. I got pretty upset b the Portsmouth performance, because I thought they wouldn’t dare play like that again after Leicester. But I have given up on them again so all’s good . Plus we have a manager who seems complicit in allowing them sack off ‘bonus’ games a la Rednapp. I’m afraid anyone who is seriously expecting them to ‘pile into West Ham’ is going to be sorely disappointed. Happy New Year to you and all.

Dunne rescues QPR from more Boxing Day blues – Report
at 09:40:41

Everybody simply doing their jobs is all, Clive. Which the players clearly weren't and Dunne admitted as much post match. Sorry if you felt I was questioning the quality of your writing which clearly wasn't my intention, just the leniency of our performance. Again just as with the 'three games in a week rhetoric' I simply don't buy into ' the busy Christmas schedule' as an excuse for not being arsed at Portsmouth like it's something new or we are the only team that has to do it. I said after the magnificent performance at Leicester that we never need to accept 'Norwich' performances again and then they serve one up in the very next game. We cannot control form anyone can have an off day in any walk of life but we can control effort and there was precious little on display at Portsmouth.

Dunne rescues QPR from more Boxing Day blues – Report
at 00:03:01

Cheers Clive. I agree with your first half summary, but feel your take on the second half rather generous. We improved marginally (we could hardly have deteriorated) and moved the dial just enough to equalise fairly early on against a very poor Portsmouth side, shorn of their best player (although Blair did a passable job of impersonating him first half). I’m thinking at this point, ‘okay forget the first half, 3-1 victory and all is forgiven’. Instead we looked slightly interested in actually imposing ourselves on the game, for the next ten or fifteen minutes. Poke game on and was an immediate upgrade on Dembele (he could hardly have been a downgrade) although has an annoying habit of just keep running until he gets dispossessed or runs out of pitch - hopefully just inexperience at a higher level. Smyth came on for Saito and surprisingly made little impression at either end of the pitch, which rather debunks your theory (that I agree with) that he should have started. In the end, rather embarrassingly, we were hanging on, as a series of schoolboy errors, applied completely unnecessary pressure on our box. I was relieved when the final whistle went, which says it all.
I’ve seen it said on the message board that JCS was sorely missed, and there is no doubt that the balance he gives the side on the left, benefits both RND and whoever plays in front of him. But he hasn’t played enough (or well enough, bar Leicester) to be a loss to the side in the sense that we are missing something new or for the first time. For me, the player we missed the most was Chair. His ability to keep possession, his work-rate and his ability to bring others into play - we missed him on the left side far more than the (n)ever present JCS.

A miserable return for Marti as white hot QPR incinerate Leicester – Report
at 09:10:48

Super report, Clive. Painted a very graphic picture of the match and atmosphere. Rarely have we seen two such dichotomous consecutive performances. Completely bested by Middlesbrough (the score could have been anything they wanted it to be) and completely besting Leicester (the score could have been anything we wanted it to be). I found your final paragraph the most telling. A lot of retrospection on the message board in the past week. Time to leave the past behind and focus on the future. I am happy to eat humble pie. I thought JS would be gone by the third International break at best. As for the players, they cannot use the motivation of a former manager every week. Neither can they turn in performances like Derby or Norwich again. We know what they are capable of, the whole division does after Saturday. Now we need to see that level week on week. No pathetic ‘3rd game in a week’ excuses which is self-prophesying. Of course we are not going to win every week - ‘it’s the Championship innit’? - but we have the right to demand that they PERFORM every week.
