I rarely if ever call anyone out for making non-sensical statements, because (A) it’s all about opinions and (B) I’ve made my share. But to suggest that Field has being ‘left behind’ in terms of ability, literally makes no sense. It’s right up there ( I know you didn’t say this) with suggesting that Chair would struggle to get into the team. We do tend to get carried away with the odd good performance, and we quickly forget all the dross we have had to sit through (Portsmouth - Oxford), so to suggest JS has somehow brought us to the ‘next level’ is absurd, and to suggest that Field is inferior to anyone else ,even more so, quite disrespectful too imo. The simple reality is, JS does not rate him, this doesn’t make him a worse player, it is just one manager’s opinion. It happens all the time. Player’s fall out off favour with a specific manager. Then they move on and do well, or the manager moves on and they get back in the team. It’s about opinions, not ability. |

I actually think Saturday’s result has impacted on this decision. Just as the 7-1 hammering brought in a plethora of players, so too perhaps the positivity around the 2-1 win, allows them to slip one of our ‘favourite players’ out the door without too much fuss. Really disappointed by this. I feel he could have played a lot more this season. Varane has rarely hit the heights this season and with Field in midfield we would have been a lot less open in some games. Anyway wish him all the best - a proper pro. |

It was a brilliant flick. If that was in the prem they would be drooling over it for years. Very pleased he had that in his locker. I have mentioned a few times that he has been played out of position (as was Frey) to accommodate Burrell. Kobe looks so much happier ‘up top’. His hold up play was second to none and his ability to bring other players into the game was vital. Also his physicality really caused their defence problems. So what happens when Burrell returns? Can he not play in the ten and use his pace to run beyond Kone when he flicks the ball on? Chair has to come back in on the left, when he returns and Vale to sit in front of Madsen/Hayden, as an 8ish I guess It means we will be narrower than usual, but this is making an assumption that everyone will be fit and available at the same time, which hasn’t exactly happened this season on a regular basis. |

Could be effective to leave Burrell up front when he returns. The oppo would deffo leave two back |

Feeling more confident (from a Derby perspective) about my September statement that if we finish above Derby, we will be in the play-offs. Eustace a bloody good manager |

It’s just that there is a January transfer thread, set up for this specific reason, not to clog up with unesscessary Threads. Fair point on Sterling (although I think that suddenly re-emerged after 4 years and he was a QPR player at one point). But other non-QPR threads don’t have an existing thread, that’s my point |

In Ireland they have recently introduced 60KM zones for ‘country’ roads. But they haven’t put up 60KM signposts, that would be boring. Instead they have erected speed signs with FIVE diagonal black lines across it - I mean how could you not know it was a 60KM zone - clear as dishwater. |

This exactly Brian - and you remained gender neutral which is even more impressive |

No disrespect Numpty, but not sure why a player who is not ours, joining a club which is not ours deserves his own thread. The only reason he played well against us was because we let him. Everyone else man-marked him. If I was given the freedom of Loftus Road I’d look pretty handy too - at least for the first five minutes before I got knackered. |

Great hope for the future with Poku though - even Willock managed a brace last night. Wonder when he last scored two games in a game. |

Lots of mitigating circumstances, Clive. No pre-season, being played out of position, not getting a run of games to build up his match fitness/sharpness. I think you mentioned you had a ‘concrete stairs’ moment after he volleyed home the winner v Luton. Also, as others have mentioned, his movement for his first goal v Norwich. That was Frey in his pomp and those skill-sets (combined with his phenomenal work rate) don’t disappear overnight. Don’t get me wrong, I think that both Kone (age) and Burrell (mobility) are significant up-grades. But he is well worth a half mill punt to help him regain that effectiveness as an ‘up top’ striker. |

Don’t really see why. He just signed a new contract. Of course as always we don’t know how long, but I think a reasonable estimate would be summer of ‘27. He is also a striker, which is the most expensive position on the pitch and at 31 should be good for another two years. Sounds about right to me. |

My argument is the flip side of this Ned. Why should going down to ten, with four minutes left, have been a cause for complete and utter capitulation, bearing in mind we had four or five players (all defenders or defensive mid-fielders) with the guts of a thousand Championship games under their belt? |

I have mentioned on more than one occasion that Frey has been played out of position on the rare occasion he got minutes this season. He has many attributes , but being a ‘10’ isn’t one of them. Indeed Kone has also being played out of position this season. I know that was done to facilitate Burrell’s ability to run in behind, but I thought he looked much happier in the traditional CF role against Wrexham - especially first half. Hopefully he will get more games in this position, which I’m pretty sure is where he was signed for. Kone up top, with Chair behind him could be pretty potent. Frey has been a great servant to us and played a significant role in keeping us up for the past two seasons - who can forget that goal and assist v Luton? Frankly I found many of the disparaging and personal insulting remarks made on here very distasteful and more fit for a Joey Barton type than an honest hard-working guy, who clearly did lots of work for the local community behind the scenes. I am very sorry to see him leave and delighted he has joined a top-flight club. I wish him all the best for the remainder of his career. |

I agree that the second yellow was dumb , but I can’t accept he cost us the game. All they had to I do was keep their heads for four (FOUR) minutes and see it out. We had enough experienced heads out there, Dunne, Cook, RND, Field to ensure that this happened. We were big on shit-housers against stoke for the entire game apparently, yesterday couldn’t do it for four (FOUR) minutes. Walsh should have gone down, take a yellow if needs be, just kill the game stone dead. Parkinson said they ‘smelt blood’ and he was right, because we absolutely capitulated. That’s on the players ON the pitch, not the player OFF it. Twenty minutes left, I would agree with you, but four (FOUR). I mean, come on. |

Shocked that a narrow defeat to Oxford was the catalyst and us so delighted to get a point there during the week. |

Banks definitely would have. Probably Clemence, Shilton and Jennings too. Walsh should be dropped. Bring back Nardi or Hamer, or better still both of them. |

So, I suppose this is going to sound weird, but I am far happier after today’s game than the last. Obviously absolutely sick at the end, but this was much closer to the level of performance and intensity - particularly first half - that I want from my team. We clearly needed to be more than one up at half time and also to continue to approach the 2nd half as we did the first. Why we didn’t is an interesting question. Following (unsuccessfully) gaffers half-time suggestion to hold what we have? Out-thought by Parkinson? Fitness levels not good enough? Not enough quality on the bench? I am not even blaming Mbengue for this. We simply had to be a lot more resolute with 10 men and hold on for at least one point (which would have been a fair result imo). We have huffed and puffed against ten men for huge chunks of games in the past, and yet here we capitulated with only a handful of minutes. It’s about discipline, everybody giving a little and leadership on and off the pitch, which was sadly lacking at the end. But overall I was happy enough, because football should always be about entertainment, not grinding out 0-0’s Oh and before anyone points it out- yes we scored twice and got nothing - first time this season or last. I’m going to run with ‘it’s the exception that proves the rule’ |

I suppose both are true Weston. The first is factually correct. The second is accurate in terms of aesthetics or the complete lack thereof. Lots of valid points being made by the various contributors. I don’t even pretend to know the answers. I’m more focused on performances than results, because I believe that -by and large - if you play well, the results will be favourable. Trouble is, we haven’t played well for a long time. |
