| Forum Reply | Are we capable of going up next season. at 20:55 30 Apr 2024
Can't see it. Too many poor results and performances. Whatever way you choose to extrapolate Marti's tenure into a 46-game tally it's upper midtable at best. We need fullbacks, a dynamic forward minded midfielder, wingers and attackers to go up to next level. I'd be happy with maintaining a positive goal-difference through the season. That'd keep us well clear of relegation worries and solid in top half of table with the possibility of dreaming of a 4-game spurt to have us sniffing about top 6. |
| Forum Reply | Dykes - WHAT and WHY?? at 16:33 3 Mar 2024
Dykes was very good yesterday, virtually on his Todd against two CBs. The guy did really well receiving the ball, holding it up and laying it off several times. BUT.... on ONE occasion his touch was a bit heavy and cue a load of muttering about "bloody useless Dykes"..... Really arbitrary, selective and unfair but probably a good indicator that too many just won't get behind him and choose only to see the odd bit of slackness from him. |

Yeah. I set their sniffer dog off - flipping mutt had the right horn for my leg! They got really shirty and viewed this as incontrovertible proof I had drugs or pyros on me, kept giving me one last chance to 'fess up as anything found would result in me being refused admission and handed to police. Needless to say, after getting hauled aside for a thorough pat down and search of clothing all they found were my snotrag and Lockets (I gotta stinking cold y'see). Even then they remained surly and disbelieving, accusing me of smoking weed recently - the cheeky blighters! |

I don't think we're selling out. The published attendance figures are including a LOT of freebies handed out to the "community" and in many instances a sizeable chunk of those holders of freebies didn't turn up. Rotherham needed "Kid a Quid" too. I don't think it's fair or correct to move goalposts or change our approach mid-season and we should treat ALL visting clubs the same. Anyway, what sort of message does it send to them if we say we're worried your raucous big support might give you an edge? Nah, bring them AND their fans on send them home with their tails between their legs. If 15000 home fans can't drown out 3000 away fans there's something not right. [Post edited 3 Mar 16:06]

| Forum Reply | Loftus Road Walk Out Music at 09:44 2 Mar 2024
I don't like Pigbag, particularly when it reaches that screechy squealy bit, flipping grating in my view. I would be happy to see change. This thread is throwing up mostly useless ideas though, folks seem more intent on showing how outre they are, how eclectic their taste is as opposed to suggesting viable walk-out music. I'd suggest a 60s/70sTV theme tune.... maybe The Sweeney or Thunderbirds? |

This book is very good. Short and sweet but it succinctly sums up how to be a manager - get a copy and see if you can subtly introduce it to your manager, maybe via all your team enthusing about it? After reading it you'd hope they'd have some sort of epiphany. https://www.amazon.co.uk/New-One-Minute-Manager/dp/0008128049/ref=sr_1_3?crid=N8 Alternatively, knuckle down, work hard and ascend the greasy pole and become THE manager yourself. I realised in my mid-20s I was surrounded by idiots and if I wasn't careful one, or some, of them could become my boss, I therefore had a 10-year burst of grafting, asslicking, toadying, saying "yes" a lot and eventually became the big chief. At that point I could just apply one-minute-manage principles and enjoy 30 years of peace and quiet. |
| Forum Reply | Is this, unexpectedly, a season to be savoured after all? at 19:24 7 Feb 2024
We were everyones favourite for the drop at start. Many people went into a meltdown after Oxford thrashing and, getting thumped by Horns in first game didn't help. But within weeks I'd enjoyed great days out at Cardiff and Boro so I had no real fears tor the future or concerns over Ainsworth. It then petered out and sundry staff exited the club and we've now reset. Right now my expectations are back inline with what they were in September, finishing 16th-ish. Only difference is that today, 16th would be regarded as The Great Escape and the re-birth of the club instead of yet another meh season. |
| Forum Reply | Playing out from the back - Everyone is doing it - WHY ??? at 19:47 24 Jan 2024
Does my head when you watch a mediocre team trying to stroke it about at the back. It rapidly disintegrates and becomes fraught with danger so someone (invariably the goalie) ends up booting it up field to relieve the pressure. I grimace and think, blinking hell, could've done that 2 mins ago and saved a lot of grief! PLUS... even if the opposition win the aerial ball into their territory, more often than not you win back possession at the second ball. Some bright spark will soon decide when you win a corner it's safer to whack the ball 90yds back to your own keeper as opposed to risking losing possession by pinging ball towards your striker in their 6yd box. |
| Forum Reply | Will we stay up? at 20:13 22 Jan 2024
Blackburn are in freefall (LLWLLLLDLD) so next two games are a massive chance to kick some rivals in the goolies OR commit hari-kari. If we can keep Saturday's victorious XI fit for both games (and that's a whopping big IF for this bunch) I reckon we will win both games and take a massive step towards staying up. I've got my ticket for Ewood. Hopefully 3pts on Sunday will galvanise and enthuse 1499+ others to join me. |

I suppose this is natural outcome of what is it... 9 seasons in same division? A relegation season followed by a bit of a mediocrity and a few seasons of garbage. Other garbage teams (and there are many in fairness to us) go down and start winning games in the league below. I'm thinking of your Barnsleys, Rotherhams, Blackpools, Wigans etc etc By avoiding relegation these past few seasons we've just condemned ourselves to losing a hatfull of games again the following campaigns. |

Tickets were due to go off sale at 4pm today. It was always stated it would be All Ticket with NO sales on match day. This is the reason you can't buy a ticket this evening - not because we have sold out the 2000 allocation. |

I too was wondering where the lad is. In his brief cameos he looked to have something about him, I was quite enthused. Bit of a bummer that he's crocked and makes me worry he's another to add to the long list of players we have that don't seem able to go 180mins without crying off sick. That sounds negative/pessimistic but I'm generally cheesed off so forgive me. Hopefully, he'll return to fitness soon and show us what he's made of.... one thing with Marti is that everyone gets a look-in. |

Normally, clubs from about 7th/8th down in the Prem have a negative goal difference and a mediocre points tally. I suppose the perennial midtable teams dream of having a mini-spurt and bagging a place in that tin-pot EuroPlate thing. Seeing your team play in some Eastern European outpost where you can get drunk and get your leg-over for under £20 definitely has an appeal I think. |
| Forum Reply | Return of the European Super League???? at 21:08 21 Dec 2023
The "proper" EUFA and FIFA sanctioned club competitions are all significantly expanding in coming seasons. I think all participants in group stages of CL will be guaranteed TEN games. Basically, the European Super League is already here and operating in plain sight. The idea that the craven and venal suits of EUFA are the just and legitimate custodians of these competitions is risible. The sententious guff that Ceferin spouts is truly mind-bending... banging on about saving football and football is not for sale. Unbelievable! The Premier League has already done the dirty on the Football League so I'm extremely attracted to this new ESL doing the dirty on the Premier League. I actually think that the big 6 defecting from the Prem will result in a rejuvenation of the EFL and real football. |

Like I say, limp. Been most games there in past 40yrs including a night game at Old Den where you had to traverse various oily lanes lined with tinkers yards, wasteland and a tunnel to get there. Never had an issue. Last several games there have been almost friendly...if folks are still nervous about going there I'm not sure they should be allowed outdoors unaccompanied at all. I'd normally go via Surrey Quays but will just walk from London Bridge on Monday.... brisk 30min yomp to walk off the turkey. Looking forwards to it. |

Are many going? Notice they've started giving away teams both tiers now so the allocation is nigh on 3000. Given teams like Leeds, Sunderland, Cov, Saints have sold it out this season it will be pretty ropey if we don't fill it irrespective of rail woes that day. Simple fact is this: if we were at home, 12000+ Rs would turn up (well, 16K if Hoos is doing the headcount), they'd find a way of getting there. It's therefore a bit limp if a quarter of those fans can't make an 8 mile detour/alteration to their itinerary for our only London derby of the season. Maybe I've got it wrong and tickets are selling quickly...... I just have a hunch a lot of folks will look for reasons NOT to go as opposed to putting in a bit of effort to get there. We'll see. |

Read about it and was a bit puzzled cos the same story was brilliantly told in Dopesick on Disney+ a year or two back (it's still there of course). That was stunning TV, compelling viewing with top-notch performances all round, particularly Michael Keaton who I always enjoy watching. I can't comment on this Netflix remake/rip-off cos I can't see point in it. It's as if they made a dark film called Clown about a failed stand-up comedian descending into madness and embarking on a murderous journey. You'd think what's the point, I've seen the "real" version a short while ago. |

It's shockingly bad. Puerile and embarrassing. Was mildly tolerable at first when it was getting mumbled and mangled by a couple of dozen exuberant fans - couldn't really hear the words and obviously it's a timeless evergreen tune so no worries really. But, as it's taken hold and the true brainless horror of it has become apparent I've been stunned. Presume it has earworm properties akin to a song like Agadoo (and similar mindless random lyricism). Still, each to their own but it clearly will NEVER cascade around the stands as it's obvious too many people feel bilious about it. I'm not a killjoy, I'd happily get behind something jaunty like "Ole, Ole, Ole, Ole. Marti! Martiiieee! |
| Forum Reply | Safe Standing in Lower Loft at 21:17 10 Dec 2023
Is it the rail seating that's brought about the uplift or is it the fact they've kicked families out of the way? I'd say it's the latter. Been breaking my heart for years to see loads of empty seats in lower loft since it was designated family stand. This should be the febrile core of our support, the first area to sell out - it's the freaking famous Loft for Pete's Sake! Should rail seat the whole bottom tier of loft and lash families in the paddocks. Give them free Mickey Mouse or Barbie kagools if it's inclement. |
