Hopefully Burgess can inflict a bit of that old players curse on them.

Just watched the highlights Cabango and Burgess did have clear chances from our set pieces as did Vipotnik but the offside flag did go up for one of those chances.
And was their goal offside, the player who played the ball in the challenged with Tymon looked offside when the cross from the opposite side was played and before when the ball was played to the player on the opposite side.
Anybody seen the televised game and have they any opinions on the various clashes in the box which saw the Swans players hit the deck.

Couple of points with regards to our set pieces why at corners do we very rarely see Cabango or Burgess make runs in front of the players at the front post it would drag big defenders out and as we know it is going to be whipping in it would only need the slightest touch, we have seen Cullen and Vipotnik do it surely it makes sense that the bigger men also as an alternative at the front post.
How many times have we got ourselves caught offside from free kicks by holding a line beyond their back line set up it seems crazy to me static forward expecting to out jump static defenders, even worse our tall players have to take a step back to get onside as the kick is being taken, I didn't think Preston's defence was particularly good defensively in an aerial sense borne out one by Cullen's goal but the number of chances missed but how many times did our big boys get under the ball unable to head downward was that a result of the dropping back to stay onside leaving them unable to get a good run and jump to get on top of the ball to drive home the advantage of being able to get higher than a static defender holding the line.I think our movement is very poor at set pieces. Quite a few of our goals have come from the fallout around set pieces but I do think we are not maximising the use of Burgess and Cabango at set pieces.

Galbraith, Yalcouye, Nunes, Tymon, Key and Widell have enough pace, movement and skills to keep us on the front foot and it was a pleasure to see us moving the ball quickly and with purpose to get the ball in and around the opposition box but Preston had gone into defensive mode with an eye to catch us on the counter act. We did get the ball into dangerous areas with some nice play and mixed it up with some crosses either from open play and set pieces which eventually got us the reward we deserved.
Matos did mention that if we had scored earlier in that second half the game would change, would Preston crumble or come out fighting,if they came out of that defensive mode would we have been able to cope defensively or be more able to hurt them.
Different games present different problems could we start with the team that finished and play teams off the park or would we be kicked off the park which in the end of last nights game seemed to be Preston's intent. We have seen in a couple of away games against the so called better teams we have run out of steam, only losing by the odd goal. We have seen both Fulton and Stamenic used to good effect in games but we have seen them suffer against teams who play at a high tempo. Would the players mentioned at the top of the quote be able to start and keep the high tempo set in that second half for the whole game, I think not but if that high tempo results in early goals for us we have seen we are capable of keeping thing relatively tight at the back with substitutions if needed.
As you say Matos has a selection problem now but we have seen teams playing at a high tempo cause us problems so I think those players starting could cause teams problems but we must appreciate that at times a game needs to have changes in tempo to catch teams off guard, have those relatively young amd inexperienced players, if in the starting eleven, now learnt enough about Championship football to remain focused and effective for the 90 minutes or whatever time the manager thinks we need to get positive results.
The manager seems to be able for the most part to change games with a positive outcome, long may that continue.

Will Galbraith now claim that deep lying midfield role to pull the strings in getting us playing good dangerous football in an around the opposition box, regardless of Fulton and Stamenic.

Playing in too tight areas of the pitch, we have seen it before, could have played in behind a little more or even quicker throw ins instead of letting Bristol get organised because at times their winger was slow to cover the space in front of Eom that would have allowed balls to feet for Eom to lay off the ball allowing the midfield to come onto the ball catching the defence flat footed.
We had in previous games played quicker throw ins that has seemed to have decrease somewhat.

They closed us down well and we still tried to play the passing game in very tight areas of the pitch,at throw ins we let them get organised, we saw the quick ball over for Eom to chase made them look vulnerable as they pressed up, Eom had space to feet from throw ins if we took them quickly but we didn't. We got boxed in at times which we didn't need to be as their high line defence looked slow. Little bit too much football gaining unthreatening possession with little to pin them back resulting in the need for some resolute defending and a bit of luck.

Humble? grounded? Nah a manager chuffed to bits that his team got the three points just like the home fans in the ground, bouncing to see the points in the bag, seeing us being competitive again, we know we aren't going to win every game or be in control for 90mins and we know that there are a lot of unexperienced players finding their feet and players whose confidence have been shot from a number of years of being on the back foot, nice to see us coming out on top of games again. Opposition managers will look at Matos's team and will now be trying to figure out how to beat his set up and styles of play in the future , Matos happy to win.

Do we need to get the ball into the middle quicker yo catch defenders on the back foot with a limited number of our players in the box or hold to play up out wide to ensure the Calvary can arrive with good runs into the box for the ball on the floor.
It is often the case as the player holding the ball up out wide has too many players around him including our own, once we have possession upfield, with players like , Tymon, Galbraith and even Key in support then our midfielders or opposite wingers should be looking to get in front of their respective markers. The opposite full backs should hold good defensive positions alongside the centre halves along with a least one pacy midfielder depending on the opposition. Surprised a little that we didn't hold the ball up.in the corners towards the end as we had started to win possession further up field with our new subs on. Yes we almost scored but we ga very away good possession at times setting the nerves on edge.

We did have that couple of, in quick succession, brain freeze no chance passes/ clearance in that second half to almost gift Bristol openings and we did get stuck on the wings in tight positions it irked me that for some of the throw ins we reverted back to slowing the game down to waited to get our selves into the position to play the to tight lay offs to the thrower instead of quick down the line throw ins to stretch the game and gets us high up the pitch instead of leaving them get back into a good defensive shape also noticed Nunes had a number of passes that seemed a little casual but for the most part they weren't giving Bristol possession in dangerous position and he thoroughly deserved the appreciative applause he received as he rounded the pitch after his substitution.
Was it a case of us dropping too deep while our forwards chased down patient and effective play out from the back or in the end us not being drawn out of position to be able to keep our defence solid against a team who had dangerous forwards who almost opened or did us up in the first couple of minutes.

One question how did Walta win more free kicks in his short space of time than the excellent Widell deserved in his stint although he did get a free kick after breaking through two dubious challenges only to be awarded a free kick even though advantage could of been played and further more the free kick was awarded further back from where either fouls were comiited making Eom's free kick strike just a little too far out!

A good but nervous win where every good defensive challenge was greeted and cheered as a goal!

Yes I did try to word it as one clear chance after going ahead, missed that second strike to hit the woodwork presume it was the shot from our right, the chance I was referring to was the shot save made by Vigouroux, so it was in fact as you say two chances , but as per comments Cabango and Burgess defended very well, we rode our luck but games are won often by small margins and as has been said Bristol looked the better team but they had to attack and we did have a clear cut chance ourselves.

Hard shift put in by the lads, will we see a number of rotations to the bench from todays game for the starting line?

We got the lead and did well to hold onto it with some very good defending after our goal, they did a good job of working the ball out of their defence, we kept it down to very few cear cut chances , possibly only the one. Resolute defending and we almost made it two towards the end to calm the nerves but good performance our two centre halves for the most part shutting the Bristol forwards down.

It has been done before for FA Cup games where the percentage allocation is higher, some of the season ticket have had to be moved in previous seasons can't see it being a problem this season at the moment.

Isn't it an issue with players not getting their head up to pick the right option, can we exuse Eom because of the fact playing on the wrong side having to concentrate on his foot work having said that cutting inside on his right foot who would begrudge his getting a shot away even though better options may open up for other players.
A word on Cullen berating players for not playing balls into him it seemed awfully excessive, Nunes getting a lot of attention, I think it can be unhelpful for a young player especially as they are otherwise performing well, quite happy to learn from experienced players but not harassed which seem to be the case because it restricts the decision making getting the youngster to decide too early for the best option rather than playing the right ball to catch defenders out rather than making it easy for defenders to read.

What little I have seen of Parker he looks good more so in a winger back role when first selected but I didn't realise how young he was. Though he did well this season all be it against a lower division opposition and in games played did not get pushed off the ball as easily as we have seen Key but not enough experience for the championship given the lack of experience in the squad?
He did get questioned or blamed for one goal but to me that was down to Congreve's poor tracking back which in the under 21s game I saw Congreve do the hard work to get back but didn't get goal side and lost track of his player. Hopefully Congreve is gettting enough game time and experience to cut out mistakes and Parker can get game time maybe on loan to prove his worth?

Galbraith has more pace than Grimes, his ability to win the aerial ball is better but Grimes has a lot more experience and in the right team setup has shown to be effective at times with us he was pivotal and at times teams were able to nullify his effect on games and he would need other players to step up to take advantage of the teams trying to close him down; Cooper almost got it right but not quite. Let's hope the team benefits from the attention needed to handle Galbraith and take advantage .

I think Widell is a safe bet in that attacking midfield role he is not a winger, maybe Eom as he is not a left winger, Nunes and Inoussa while having different skill set could help us on the wing to get that team shape or dynamic we want, both I would say are a little inexperienced and need to look at their tracking back but sometimes if the defence is coping well they would suit the team better further up the field, pro and cons aiding to the team set up.
