NEW Daily Mail report has claimed Saints manager Ralph Hasenhuttl has lost the trust of some of his players. The St Mary’s side got off to a disappointing start in their Premier League season with a 4-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on the opening day, following a poor run of form in the previous campaign. The Daily Mail claim they have been told of unrest and dissent within the dressing room, during Saturday’s heavy loss. The report adds several players were surprised the Austrian, who arrived at Staplewood in December 2018 and has kept the club in the Premier League under difficult conditions, was not sacked this summer. Daily Echo: They claim some players spoke to senior members of the Saints hierarchy to express their concerns over Hasenhuttl’s management, after the team won just once in their final league 13 matches. Hasenhuttl is under contract at Saints until 2024, when he has publicly announced his current intention to retire from football management, the report adding there is no appetite to change boss now. Saints parted ways with three first-team coaches in the summer, replacing Kelvin Davis, Dave Watson and Craig Fleming with Ruben Selles, Alex Clapham and Carl Martin. Daily Echo: Hasenhuttl also has a big squad — 27 players vying for 11 places when all fit — and so some of his players have seen reduced involvement over the past few months. The report further details sources claims that Hasenhuttl is becoming more detached from his squad, with increased tension behind the scenes and even the new coaches harbouring misgivings. When approached by the Daily Echo on the report, Saints declined to comment. |
