Even Jo tessem was saying we pass sideways and backwards too much. He also said some players make decent runs but we just don't show ambition to attack and make chances. What is the point of football if you dont try to attack?? That's pretty damning.
I'd hope we've learned our lesson. Names like Ings and OC are tempting but I hope someone is looking at the hard facts. We can't afford another Ross Stewart.
I do remember going to the semi against Watford at Villa Park and his son was on our minibus, dunno why. He's called Mick too I think and he was a really good lad and a huge Saints fan.
It may well be scientifically possible but the point it that MLT seems to suggest that the government was manipulating the weather during covid to keep everyone happy in the sunshine.
It' the mentality more than anything. We are ok when it goes our way but we are so fragile once it doesn't. That last goal was terrible. It went out to their left and our defender should have sprinted to get near the guy and stop him getting the ball in but he ambled toward him and never got within 10 feet of him. More concerned with holding his hands behind his back. The ball came in to a player that also wasn't marked. that guy fell over and we still didn't close him down. He had time to get up, and scuff the ball into the net. How? Where was the urgency??
Aside from just feeling sympathy for someone that struggles, are they any different from everyone else. they just have more money. We are all unsupervised once we leave work and some people do alright in life and some people start drinking or drugs or get depression. It doesn't seem something peculiar to footballers, it's just a bit more a surprise as they seem to have more advantages.
I'm sure our strikers work on finishing every day but sooner or later they simply hit their level. Adams and Armstrong are not suddenly going to improve now. Really good finishers are instinctive. They just have that calmness and awareness at the right moment that i don't think you can teach. They are also extremely expensive!
As fans we change with the wind. Rothwell scored two crackers a couple of weeks ago. The next game he didn't and he got slated that he wasn't good enough. This week he grabs two more and suddenly he's fantastic again. It's exhausting.
i just don't get it. It's a huge risk for the "possibility" of getting into midfield and potentially getting a chance at the end of it. I'd be happy if I were the defending team because I'd think Saints have to get a lot spot on for it to end in a chance. Whereas we only have to do one thing wrong to present the other team with the ball very close to our goal.
Also it means the other team know and can push up on us at every opportunity. They can hear and feel the nervousness in the crowd and they can see that Bazunu is often edgy when he has the ball. So as others have said, the risk seems far greater than the reward.
Firstly Rylan Martin (once you see that, you cant unsee it, sorry) seems to have lost confidence since the Bristol game and suddenly we are setting up worried about what the other team is going to do. We've played teams much lower in the table but instead of imposing ourselves on them we've set up seemingly to counteract what they might do.
Secondly we play very much at one tempo and when it doesn't work we are toothless. We obsess over possession but it's at walking pace. Watching Leicester and Leeds they both want possession but they are willing to risk playing at a much higher tempo in order to create chances and look far more dangerous. Hence we get 81% and very few chances.
Another very poor first half. We can't keep gifting the opposition a head start and hope to turn it around. I think the outcry is because we could play so well at West brom, then look so clueless and ragged last night. Performances will fluctuate of course, but the difference between our good and bad is much too wide right now.
I'd rather Leicester beat Leeds. Leicester are far enough in front that it's not realistic to catch them. I'd rather get clear of Leeds. I wouldnt want to go there last game needing something.
I think and hope that some are building this game up more than necessary. West Brom are decent but they are below us in the table and we shouldn't go anywhere in this league and be fearful. Respect them but impose our game. Surely we can't be as bad as we were at Bristol where we looked lethargic and sloppy. I hope that now the run is over the pressure if off the team and they can get back to playing our brand of football. There is absolutely no reason we can't go there and win.
