Interesting (and encouraging stat). Hard to see how they can be 4th with so few home wins and us 5th after such a long run of draws. |

In microcosm, that incident reflected the challenge of what do you do when a team just refuses to come out to play, as many of the poorer sides who come to Loftus Rd do. It’s a work in progress but we are definitely coming closer to unlocking that key: the Charles out-ball of course, Mad Boy Kember marauding down the left, and Ronnie stepping into midfield for long stretches when in possession. |

Really positive that we can start 3 former DS players and none looked out of their depth. Both did well, Kolli just needs a goal now. Well as they linked up on occasion I suspect against Brum we will revert to the set up that worked well at WHU - Jimmy and JCS in defence, Ronnie the extra midfielder. |

Good post. They do say 10 games is the point where the table takes some shape, so the right time to assess. The two big positives for me are 1) we are very compact and hard to break down which means we are always in games - we finally have a real spine to the side, and 2) it feels like there is a fair bit more to come from this team. If we had been able to bring on Burrell, Chair, Saito on 60 mins, who knows what the score could have been? Injuries and whether we can beat teams when we dominate possession still the two big challenges. Am not in anyway arrogant or complacent about the tough games coming up but am a bit less nervous than usual before such clashes. Could suit us. Smyth working miracles. We now need the likes of Poku and Kolli to hit their stride. |

Yeah, dont think RND does that cutback. Offered v little going forward (something like one assist all season?). Last two games Boy has been immense. [Post edited 14 Oct 22:34]

I plead guilty. Haven't been a fan of his end product but the hustle and bustle is just what we have needed tonight. And he is one of the likeable ones who its always a pleasure to see succeed. |

Both points can be true, surely? We are improving. But 18 months without a win when we have more than 50% possession means that when we are facing supposedly "weaker" sides at home we just aren't winning the games we should be winning. Hopefully tonight will be the turning point... |

On a positive, altho' I have been pretty critical of Alfie's contributions, Kolli was v isolated against West Ham; having Lloyd buzzing about near him might create some space for Kolli by drawing away parts of their makeshift defence. |

Also really surprised no Poku. They have injuries to all 3 of their left backs. Unless Smyth playing right, surely we should be trying to rip them apart down that side? Vale is never going to take someone on down the outside. Indeed, this season he doesn't seem up to doing much. |

Exactly. You have answered W7's point more eloquently than I could. Like you I don't care about possession for its own sake. It's the fact that we don't seem capable of winning these type of home games for the reason you explain. So its about points, not possession. |

Something certainly has to give tonight. We are likely to have more than half the possession, so can we break this terrible 18 month record? It’s an important game as due to Derby’s terrible injury problems and league position we will rarely get a better chance. Must admit I’m nervous. |
