I'm sure they're more than capable of challenging for the final play-off spot, especially with games in hand, but they were never really in the title race and are currently 19 points behind York and 18 behind us! |

Yes, there are plenty of twists and turns to come. For a start, it's York v FGR next Saturday, and then FGR v Carlisle the Saturday after that. Scunthorpe have Carlisle, Dale and York on consecutive midweeks later in February. Wins in fixtures between the clubs in the top 5/6 are so important at this stage. [Post edited 31 Jan 19:14]

From Steven Phillipps' books: George Heyes 1956-60 Born: Bolton 16.11.37 5’10” 11st Goalkeeper FL Apps 24 Total Apps 25 Career: (Bolton junior football), Dale 6.56 [24], Leicester C. 7.60 £7000 [25], Swansea T. 9.65 [98], Barrow 7.69 [26], Hereford U. cs.70, Bedford T. 8.70 to 1971. Goalkeeping scout for Blackburn R., Aston Villa, Leicester C., Nottingham F. Honours: Welsh Cup winners 1966, final 1969 George made his Dale debut in a friendly against Walsall in December 1957, but his FL debut came the following September, when he had the misfortune to fumble Southend’s goal over the line. Left out after a 6-1 defeat at Bury a couple of week’s later and also doing his national service, he eventually gained a regular spot in goal when Jimmy Jones was out of action in the second half of 1959-60. Snapped up by Leicester that summer for a decent fee, he spent five years at Filbert Street as Gordon Banks’ understudy before the emergence of Peter Shilton. Despite letting in 12 goals in his first two away games for Swansea, due to the timing of his transfer, he had the unusual record of playing 48 FL games in 1965-66. While with the Swans he played in two Welsh Cup Finals and appeared in the European Cup Winners Cup. Trained as a telephone engineer, he worked for BT after retiring from semi-pro football and later owned his own company. He also acted as a specialist scout for goalkeepers for several league clubs. |
