He’s a great player, a potential to be a Rolls Royce player. But £4.5 million is BIG MONEY for a club like ours for a CB when we’ve got a decent set as it is and several big prospects in the position too. I’d feel it’s kinda… dunno… an over reach perhaps? We need to spend £4.5 million getting a proper keeper and two full backs. But still, what I think is good sense aside, it’s very exciting. |

Fair enough mate but your responses earlier irritated me re ‘we’re watching a different player’ etc like I didn’t know what I was talking about re passing - and then when a slew of both stats and opinions backed me up you started questioning the foundation of stats. Which felt a bit desperate. So yeah, felt you were a bit dismissive and then pedantic about the evidence to the contrary. But agree it’s just an opinion. That’s what it’s all about anyway. On the wider point. We desperately need a quality goalkeeper and a proper left back we own and can rely on. The two squad priorities by a country mile for me. |

So you’re disregarding stats now based on your ‘eyes’ My ‘eyes’ don’t agree. Nor do the stats. Nor do his performances this season by consensus. But it’s clearly a hill you’re gonna die on so let’s leave it there. |

Yeah I think his passing skills are decent actually. Ok when he’s having an erratic game or the team isn’t gelling it can go down hill. But fundamentally he’s a proficient passer. For instance, was Dunne a better passer than Mbengue. I’d say not. Can’t think of many RBs we’ve had in recent years who are better passer than Mbengue. So not sure what you’re expecting. As for crossing. Northern is right they can be totally wild but he also has crosses whip and intent in his locker. Opener vs Leicester being a good example |

Couldn’t agree less. His deficiencies are much more of an issue at centre back. Fatal even. He can’t be allowed to play there again. He’s also, contrary to what you say, a decent player on the ball and passes and carries well for this level. We have much bigger issues to solve than Mbengue at RB Left back for a start. |
 | Forum Reply | January transfer rumours at 14:48 6 Jan 2026
Yep agree since he’s moved to RB he’s been good. Occasionally very good. We lacked pace and aggression and ability to carry the ball at full back for a long time. One thing. He gets over excited if he beats a man and tends to over elaborate and get into a jam and get tackled. If someone could teach him to offload sooner, he could really be something. |

Agree again. Has a good football brain. Passes the ball forward quickly and with crisp intent. Yes he makes mistake but he’s a teenager. He’s needs game time and to bulk up. Will be a good player. |

A game is played over the full 90. That’s how it works. You’re focussing on the negatives amongst what was a very scrappy game overall. But the important point is he had the quality and star potential to emphatically make his mark on the game twice. I also don’t agree he was dreadful, there was lots of lovely first time link play that is often sorely lacking at this level and it’s incredibly potent and creative because it unlocks the space in the final third. I have to also be honest and say sometimes you have to be able to read and understand touch and game intelligence in a young player, even if they’re having a bad game. Innate skills. It’s the eye for a player and I’m saying, as ill received as it will be, that quite a few people on here don’t have it. It was the same with Eze in his first season. There were a lot of doubters. This. Lots of clever quick link play. And two great goals. But apparently he was awful. |

Sigh. Yup. You literally, still, have no idea. |

BUMP. To those of you supporting a talented prospect from our youth team that continually delivers in front of goal whenever he’s given a chance. Well done. To those of you who needlessly dug out a young player because you literally wouldn’t know talent when it smacks you in the face. Gazza etc. not so well done. |

Kolli proving you Stainrod (in particular) and several others on here wrong is HUGELY SATISFYING. The kid has got that special ability to score and create goals and intelligently link play. It’s frankly an outrage Stephan has refused to trust him and Morgan more. But mainly back to Stainrod. Doesn’t know half as much as he thinks he does. Glad it’s been exposed. Again. |

I don’t need you to rate the seriousness of my posts. You’re 10% as clever as you think you are. A typical pub bore who only comes out to post when we lose because that’s how your desperate ego gets its nourishment. Yes I would drop Burrell for Kone and play one up top. Burrell hasn’t got the touch or back to goal game to play as the one - and seeing as you are so kind to agree about stopping 442 - then the striker can’t be Burrell. Or if it it needs someone like Kolli as a very advanced 10. Goals alone do not make a player. Burrell has very effectively hoovered up balls that break in the box but he doesn’t allow us to build possession when we need to control games at home. Andy Thomson scored more goals in League One than Paul Furlong. We were a better team with Furlong |

Playing two up front is killing Kone. He’s having to play far too deep for Burrell who he is basically having to service with very little in return. Runmarn is very selfish. It’s maddening. We finally have a striker who can not only play one up front but would actually prosper as the lone striker - and we switch to 442. Unpopular opinion but we need to prioritise Kone over Burrell. He has a much higher ceiling. Burrell has Prem pace but a National League first touch. And for me first touch is amongst the most important attributes you can have. It needs to improve vastly if we’re to be a top six side with him in the starting 11 So yeah I’d go three in mid, give Hayden Madsen and Morgan and run (I’m totally fed up with Varane’s passive poser style) and Kone up top as solo striker. Think it’d help a lot. [Post edited 2 Jan 6:21]

I’ve rarely been more pissed off by a performance. How a bunch of players with a shot at the playoffs can play which such little urgency and commitment until we’re losing, I’ll never know. A huge number of them need to dropped for a good while now. Hayden, Kolli and Morgan to start. And for the love of god STOP PLAYING 442 - it’s run its course. Burrell and Kone are not good enough to warrant it. And I’ve rarely changed my opinion on a player but Saito has just lost every part of his game that made him a talent. He needs a good long run out of the team to sort his shiz out. He’s abysmal atm |

Mark my words, Morrison is not good enough and never will be. Far too slight. Doesn’t command and gets drawn into weak tackles high up the pitch. One massive rick per game. Decent gamble but we should move him on. I did say it last year. Seems like Julien Stephan is now on the same page. |

Well, yeah, I'm obviously not suggesting we get someone who isn't better than the keepers we currently have. Didn't think that needed to be said. The entire point is our keepers are not up to scratch and it's harming the team. We urgently need someone in who can keep goal competently. |

Don't agree, I feel our keeper situation is needlessly costing us points - Walsh, Nardi and Hamer - all for different types of clanger. Ok we may not go up but just imagine if this team really starts motoring and we look like top six side but for one glaring issue. Goalkeeper. I'd already say that Norwich away was partially caused by the panic Nardi brings to the defence these days. A high quality loan (not Hamer) to the end of the season makes sense to me. Walsh & Nardi will never been good enough so we may as well move on from them asap. |
