New goalie for development squad
at 18:38 8 Jan 2025

Welcome Joel Halliday. A rarity in today's game, signed at 19yo but no Academy history, just Sunday morning footie and college.

What I like
at 16:42 8 Jan 2025

They are playing it very simply with minimum passes up field.
Watch the Frey goal versus Luton on Monday, then watch the versus Watford highlights. Exactly the same move in the Watford game, just substitute Frey for Madsen, with a flick through for Smyth to breakaway and just fire wide.

Not complicated or fancy, but very effective.

Development squad
at 15:52 8 Jan 2025

Not seen anything from EDB to think he is good enough for the 1st team. Looks good on the ball when given time, but that's about it.
Bennie is a development player, 18yo on the bench, played a few 1st team minutes. What's not to like?

Santos? Yeah, definitely a Lyndon Dykes one yard out miss that one. Back to Potugal with you.

Tuck & Leahy maybe the breakout players next?

Thomas Waddingham, (me neither), Australian 19yo striker from Brisbane Roar being linked on the interweb thingy.

We might just make it to round four of the FA cup
at 11:59 8 Jan 2025

I think whatever team we put out we will be competitive. We now have competition for places (when did we last say that?), so there will be several players trying to impress who haven't had the minutes.
But, we have to rest Dunne, Fox, Field, Frey and Smyth else we'll run them into the ground. I expect Walsh will start in goal.

Madsen Mins
at 11:52 8 Jan 2025

I've run out of patience with him, and it looks like MC has as well.
I look at the team and can't see who he would replace. The sad thing for him is he is a better 'footballer' in terms of technical ability and passing than Varane and Field.

But, as Clive says, we now 'Run, tackle and head'. All the things Madsen just can't/won't do.
I really hope he plays against Leicester and has a blinder as we can't be wasting £3m or whatever it was on him.
If not, then it'll be interesting to see what happens in the summer with him.

Don't forget young Alfie Tuck in the DS. Is he out on loan?

He looked good in pre season, and looks like he could breakthrough next season.

Didn't we get a young Scottish left back in the summer as well?

Three and easy night – Report

You do love your Ghostbusters. More Gonnies and Stand By Me quotes, please!
Great report, and yep, when your lucks in, it's in.

My only worry is that central midfield area. As a squad we are still light, one of Varane or Field go and we are struggling again.
I thought Morgan and Chair were fantastic, and there were signs in the second half of them beginning to link up well. Will be fun to see how that partnership develops over the next few months.

When Southampton play in the Championship next season he'll be playing for them as a starter. Not a hope in hell he'll move to us, they bought him for £3m. We don't have £3m, though maybe we could swap him for Madsen!

He seemed decent, good on the ball, physical.
I wouldn't have him starting unless it's to give players a rest. He is a loan, don't get attached.

I thought Chair, especially second half, was excellent. He still appears to be not quite match fit yet, but his contribution was fantastic.
I've noticed he appears to be standing very far wide, almost getting his boots white on the touchline.

I love watching him play, and yes he can be frustrating, but I'm pretty sure that's because he cares too much and tries to do too much. He has carried this team for near on 18 months, but now he has players around him who can share the burden.

I can't wait to see him playing with Dembele and Celar. Real pace and movement.

Moment of the Match - Sam Field on 90 Minutes
at 15:20 7 Jan 2025

No way was that a shot, the keeper picked it up in the box He panics when we come under pressure, which is why he plays for us, as he has all the other attributes to be at a higher level.

Moment of the Match - Sam Field on 90 Minutes

Field can't have MotM for the simple reason of booting the ball first time from the halfway line straight to their goalie in the 2nd half. We were under the cosh a bit, and he just blindly panicked and whacked it. No need, had plenty of time to take a touch and keep possession.
He does tend to do this.

Morgan for me, though, shout out for Chair, who I thought was fantastic.

I wonder if Morgan will slot into that central midfield area next to Varane or Field once Dembele is fit.

Agree. I really don't like loan players unless they are on a permanent at the end. All you do is develop someone else's player.
Edwards looked good last night, so he should be ready for Southampton in August when they kick off in the Championship. Annoying.

28th minute goal mouth scramble
at 11:40 7 Jan 2025

Probably got almost as big a cheer as scoring a goal.

Goal line clearance, bodies on the line, desire and passion. I was on my feet cheering when it was cleared. Loved it.
Compare that to the goal against Coventry, I think, back in October. Chalk and cheese.

Fantastic to have a team that actually looks like it gives a sh!t, and is prepared to get hurt for the shirt.

Yeah, he could and should have buried both those chances. He worked his socks off, a real nuisance, but you have to score those.
I always feel the ball is in control of him, rather than the other way around.

Agreed. Marti went absolutely mental when that went in. Eased off, yet this Luton team are there for the taking.

Parker breaks duck in Luton rout - History
at 21:34 5 Jan 2025

I remember this game really well, for the simple reason of not being there.
Despite being a season ticket holder, my Dad decided he didn't fancy watching Luton and dragged me to watch Kingstonian with his mate. To say I was an unhappy 14 year old is an understatement. Six goals and Paul Parker scoring.
Cheers Dad!
