Portsmouth v Swansea City : Match Thread
at 10:31 4 Nov 2026

Yes that is a valid point, but as we are starting to see now, is my belief that Matos genuinely believes that in our Match day squad (for arguments sake, say 16/17 players), they are all of the same ability and for given positions are all readily interchangeable. I base this on early season games, where without any major injuries, he was making wholesale changes match after match. Unfortunately, I believe, that we are not getting the consistency/player understandings, by making repeated changes. My second major concern, is within the extended squad of 16/17 players, we maybe are not as strong as we thought and certainly not all players are equal in terms of ability and performance levels. Having a squad to achieve a mid table finish and one to achieve a top 5 finish is massive.

Portsmouth 3 Swansea City 1 : That’s eight goals conceded in two away games
at 08:03 4 Nov 2026

I would really like to know why we still haven't seen Monga on the pitch yet. Last night wasn't one of Opoku's better games, in fact by his standard he was very poor.
Contrast that with Monga, who potentially is the most talented player in Matos entire squad.
When the game started to open up late in the second half and we needed a bit of quality to exert some real pressure, why didn't Monga come on for either Opoku or Widdel. It just doesn't make sense. I have read in another thread that last night wasn't the best scenario for Monga to make his debut, it absolutely was in my opinion. It was already a make shift team to start with. I think Matos doesn't want him here full stop.

That was a tough watch for sure. The gremlins that were evident against QPR, were present again tonight. Even if we have a bad day at the office, which happens, a well organised side, at worst should have got a 0-0 draw tonight. They were a poor team, much worse than QPR.

We are dreadful in midfield. ATM, Stemanic and Franco are way off the pace. Widdell seems to struggle, when we aren't dominant. I just hope he doesn't bring Vip on to play up front with Idah, as there will be two players both spectating instead of one. Maybe we dont have the strength in depth we thought we had. Certainly midfield is a concern, no pace or power whatsoever.

With Eom adding to our injuries out wide, would hope Monga will deffo get some action tonight. Have been waiting with anticipation to see what he could bring to our offensive game. He certainly has the skill and ability.

Goals ? The answer is staring Matos straight in the face
at 18:02 2 Nov 2026

For a start he is the highest valued player in our entire squad (13M for a 16 yr old)
Secondly, he was chased by a host of Prem league clubs in the summer window, which culminated in a straight fight between Man City & Arsenal, Both those two teams would know the caliber of player required to play at their level. And before anyone says he's only a 17 yr old kid, who wouldn't be strong enough for the championship, remember he featured 37 timess for Leicester last season in the championship as a 16 yr old.
Admittedly, his attitude and desire has been an issue since his arrival, but I recently read he has knuckled down and made the squad two weekends in a row. Until we see him in the flesh, we wont know for sure, but given his obvious talent, surely he deserves a chance to impress on the pitch, then we can all have an opinion on whether he is any good or not. He will certainly get bums off seats.

Yes , it was definitely Lissah's injury that prevented Monga coming on, but he should have come on earlier, instead of either Idah or Vipi. Playing those two upfront doesn't suit our style of play and isn't an effective pairing.
Monga who has the potential to be a 50M pound player before he is 21, really should have had some game-time by now, especially with two wide players currently injured. When games are tight (eg Sheff Utd, Wrexham), he genuinely has the ability to make something happen and unlock defenses. Hopefully he will feature in both games next week. Matos really cant keep him sidelined for too much longer as Man City will call him back and loan him elsewhere.

Agree 100%. Stewart deserves a start on Saturday, with hopefully Monga at last having the opportunity to show what he can do, why wasn't he on the bench on Saturday, given the two injuries to our wingers.
I watched the Middlesbrough highlights from Fri and it was chalk and cheese from our performance from Saturday. When they were breaking, they had at least four or five players getting forward to support the attack. When we broke forward on Saturday , we generally had only one or two players at most supporting the break and outnumbered by QPR defenders.

Maybe just too attack minded for Matos liking.
After all he's hardly likely to pass the ball sidewards or backwards too many times.

Canaries Concerns For Clement : Swans v Norwich, Monga update, plus how to meet
at 10:30 9 Oct 2026

Thanks Keith,
that's a great update and great to see that Monga is now present on the training field, I'm hoping that despite his huge talent, he has seen sense and heeded good advice and decided to get his head down and work hard for his place in the squad and on the pitch. Ive no doubt at all, that if we can get his head right and he starts delivering for the team, he will give us that star quality and different class that will add an extra dimension to our offensive play. On his day, he is virtually unplayable.

Unfortnately, Matos not learnt anything from Sheff Utd & Wrexham.
We dont have enough flair or creativity to break these types of teams down.
Im afraid huffing and puffing gets you nowhere. It was a soft penalty yes admittedly, but for all Tymons great offensive flair, basic defending is not his strong point. Lincoln have been more than happy to sit back, keep defending in numbers and wait for the usual defensive error, which if they have done their homework, they will know this will come at some point during the game.
Hope im wrong, but can only see more of the same come 2nd half. If theres no imrovement after 10 mins, he needs to make wholesale changes.

Potentially, if he doesn't start with his best 11 again today. As others have hinted at, he may chose to meddle with the central pairing again, when the correct footballing decision is glaringly obvious to 90% of Swans fans.

Swansea City : Matos explains the Jeremy Monga situation
at 22:18 11 Sep 2026

Monga is a cut above any winger we currently have in the squad. Is Matos afraid that he is completely unpredictable in his style of play. If we are not careful, Man City will recall him and loan him out to a team that values someone of his undoubted ability. After all, Sheff Utd, Wrexham and Southampton, three very poor performances, where we certainly lacked any real cutting edge and having someone able to break the opposition lines and open up the game.

Is that maybe the issue. Matos doesn't really have enough players, who have the fitness, pace and physicality to play his high press game, the end result being he has to change half the team every game, cos they are knackered.

100%.
Matos needs to stop dicking about with team selection and pick his best 11 instead of trying to keep his big squad happy.
No doubt we will have another starting 11 on Saturday.
