After being something of a boo boy in the 60s, Mick Leach turned it around as well. He was a QPR player until '78 and so was part of the best QPR sides.
A bit of a welcome back clap would be fine in my book. But then we must beat his side handsomely.
I was pleasantly surprised at the warm reception Dykes got when we played Brum last week as he warmed up down the SA road side. I find it cringeworthy when we boo ex-managers/players. Far better to have no response at all for those we don't like. It would kind of say, 'We've forgotten all about you'.
I agree with Aston. Use the dev squad to plug gaps. After all, that's the supposed 'model', isn't it?
If we do need a CB, we have Smith in the dev squad, who is deemed good enough for the Afcon South Africa squad, plus Akindileni and a couple of others.
Well, that's as bad as I feared it might be. Not to pick him out particularly but I have lost patience with Varane. He's simply not good enough on the ball and that alone is a significant weakness in our CM.
Indeed Bazz. I'd much prefer that we continue to try and build a squad over the next few seasons, not only to gain promotion but as a foundation for surviving in the PL. I don't think we would survive, but it would be good to at least give a good account of ourselves.
That said, I don't particularly want promotion other than to put a decent whack of money in the coffers.
The small advantages I can see are stretching the oppo's vertical shape and giving a better chance of retaining the ball than going long from the keeper.
The risks seem greater than the minor rewards though. It does feel like it's only a matter of time before it goes wrong, particularly with Nardi's nervousness with the ball at his feet.
To rest Burrell on Saturday would be a brave decision but it would help Kone as he'd move into the lead striker role. In doing so he'd play in the prime spaces Burrell has been occupying, and I really want to see Kone break his goal drought.
To coin the phrase, we should get something out of this game. Brum have a crap away record this season. We're getting up a head of steam. The team selection will be very interesting given question marks over 4 or 5 positions.
1-1 but I think I will feel a bit disappointed with that.
