 | Forum Reply | Ronnie returns, but is it the handsome deal QPR hope? – Signing at 03:44 10 Jan 2026
Glad you’ve asked the awkward questions - we rejected activating the clause to sign Saito last summer, only to blow £5m on him because we had sacked a popular manager and the new guy was having an inauspicious start so they needed a panacea and Derby were about to sign him so pitchforks would’ve been out at LR. Edwards is obviously a very promising player, but blowing the last of the Eze money on him because we had a crap Xmas has the feel as you say of a ‘look over here’ when that money could’ve arguably been better utilised. Hopefully it works and we go on a 15 game clean sheet run now with lovely Ronnie in defence, while Saito smashes 20 goals by the end of the season, but yeah… |

As you know HH, the reality of what they’ll tell you to your face is very different from the reality on the ground. |

At the risk of being a stuck record, Williams is DOF now. Player availability is *technically* not him anymore. |

Obviously I can’t provide proof on a message board, but it was the very thick end of £5m with add-ons that admittedly likely won’t ever be met. |
 | Forum Reply | Ronnie Edwards at 16:25 8 Jan 2026
LOL! We committed closer to double that on Saito…. |

At the risk of saying ‘I told you so’, I did tell you the deal was agreed weeks ago… |

I mean they realised they couldn’t have him come back after the farce of last season here and in Boston with a straight face so he failed upwards into the DOF role over the summer and thus probably gets some leeway here. |

He’s been begging to be released for ages now and ended up at Våsterås and Morecambe as he had to sort out his own loans outside the usual transfer windows as the club was ignoring him. I expect/hope for his sake that he’s got something else lined up and we have taken him back to finally let him go. |

We asked about Castledine and Deivid Washington the January we got Frey and Anderson and were quoted a cray loan fee so left it. Castledine looks a very promising player who we could do a lot worse than taking a punt on. |

At the risk of coming over all stainrod, when you sack off winnable games against Pompey and West Brom to focus on home games v Norwich and Sheff Wed and then get trounced by Norwich, you are rather making a rod for your own back. |

No worries, she’s happily munching on pizza right now so she’s had the best Xmas of all of us |

Our daughter has been in intensive care with RSV so I haven’t posted much at all the past month or so. Thanks for asking though James |

I have a bit of sympathy for Varane on that front as the club have thrown him completely under the bus by leaking out to friendly journos that we had rejected £5m+ for him - even with all add-ons and a 2x multiplier during the Chinese whispers it was nowhere near £5m - they’ve built him up as the new great white hope to ‘save’ us with a profitable sale. Unfortunately when you’ve spent a lot of money paying PR firms to call you ‘the Lionel Messi of football boardrooms’ and the football on the pitch is crap, the lies off the pitch have to become incrementally bigger to keep the plates spinning, and there is a very big and painful meeting of plate and floor coming up in the not too distant future. |

Edwards was/is the last of the Eze money. The deal to sign him has been agreed since September, its note just a case of if he is the panacea in January or they use that money on another striker perhaps to get the twitterati frothing. Regardless, the once in a generation cash input was blown on *this* lower mid table squad. |

It’s typical social media nonsense putting 2&2 and getting 5. Of course we would like Frey to leave but he’s tied down for several more years and they did that to bring his wage to a manageable level. He’s going nowhere. Of course we would like to get rid of Nardi, but he refused to leave in the summer and will see out his generous deal until the summer. Of course we will look to sell Smyth for a few quid if he refuses to sign a new deal rather than let him walk for free, but he won’t want to leave. Kolli & Morgan are still the two most likely to leave in January. |

We are neither going up nor down so he should be playing every week and learning on the job with RND filling in on 3 game weeks. Horrendously mismanaged as per usual from this leadership. |

Not injured and being aggressively touted about. |

The loaner can’t recall a player on a season long loan without the approval of the loanee. |
