No serious person called them the D day dodgers how could they when the landings at Salerno took place months before D day.People didn't know that D day was going to happen.My Dad like your Uncle was in the army in Italy during WW11 he told me that before he landed some British troops refused to go because they would have to serve under
the American General,Mark Clark, and this was against their regulations.This soured their reputation at the time and did lead to accusations in the press but it didn't last for long when the Allied forces started pushing the Germans back.
Your Uncle like all those Allied soldiers leaves a great legacy.

The Hare and hounds in West End,Surrey.A great little pub with good food and beer and a lovely garden.Spent many a happy time in there.Just back in fact.The only thing i dont like is if i talk about QPR people give you a strange bored look but you come to expect that in Surrey.Its a ten minute walk from home.

Fair enough mate.I can remember my Dad had a couple of those old balls in the shed but we never used them i thought they were obsolete by the 1960's but i may be wrong.

They were nothing like medicine balls at all.Thats just a myth that has grown for some reason.I'm 63 years old and use to play on the scrubs as a child and can't remember ever playing with a heavy ball.
