Can`t agree with you re where the main problem lies. We may need to rotate strikers due to change of circumstances re injury, suspension, loss of form or any of the issues affecting a team going all out for promotion, as I hope we are. Those 5 players you mention are none of them goalscorers in the event. They have scored between them in 47 league starts a total of 7 goals, or roughly 1 goal every 7 starts. They could never be classified as goalscoring Number 10`s. What i am talking about is players who can put the ball in the net on a regular basis, Mani D has proved that here and Tyler Smith looked to be heading in the right direction. Duku is an unknown quantity to us inevitably, but I cannot see Jim playing him in the Number 10 role. It may be significant that so many of our recent goals have come from defence and midfield, but we need more from the attack. My overall point is that we need as much forward power as possible if we seriously want outpace York, and 90th minute winners won`t keep coming, nor wind affected crosses ending in the net or a left-foot scorcher from Ryan G. Hendo could answer the call if he is given enough starts. Oh for a Glen Murray. |

Surely it`s not too late to get another striker onboard before we get too far into this next crucial period. Jim does not seem to think Rodney can do a full game- for whatever reason. At 27 he is the youngest of our thin group of strikers. Taking him off with Hendo against Southend whilst we were not winning says a lot. Sure it paid off- in the 95th minute. Mani D looked lost at first on his own, though he produced the winning goal with a beautiful sidefoot. Bear in mind Devante has scored 1 goal in his last 12 games, though has assists. There must be strikers around who have missed out on a move when the EFL transfer deadline passed. They (and especially their agents) might be ready to move on. At our league position we should be a good prospect. Are we thinking big enough? |

Wow! Thanks for that. The fee was interesting. In those days £7k was a tidy sum for Dale. |

Was he in fact a Dale junior? I can`t recall where he started. |
 | Forum Reply | George Heyes at 13:55 31 Jan 2026
Correction- I forgot his 4 appearances the previous season. |

He joined Dale in January 1960 replacing Jimmy Jones for the final 20 games that season. He was only 22 at that stage of his career and joined Leicester in the close season. I recall him being a good shot-stopper and was slightly smaller than the average keeper . Playing behind Milburn, Aspden and Bodell, he was well supported. I can`t remember how he went on after Leicester. |

Well pretty obviously I would have thought. Q What is the yellow card situation? A There have been x yellows with the main recipients a, b and c |

Agree with everything you say-as usual. We cannot plan for 90th minute winners-however welcome. We (Jim) need to be brave. One thing astonishes me. Not one mention of the captain on this thread. He is the lynchpin to the whole operation and has returned from injury to his brilliant best. Remember this is the guy who brought on the 17 year-old George Nevett to play 17 games, and the 22 year-old Kyron Gordon to play over 80 games for the Dale so far. Both were inexperienced up to that point. Now Perry looks to be heading in the right direction. That must have needed a lot of patience, good humour and devotion to duty. No wonder Jim is treating hm with care. He knows how important the role of centre-back is. I dread to think what would happen if he was out. What is the yellow card situation? I have lost track. |

And none of the others except the onform Rodney have the goalscoring ability of say, Lund, Keohane or Sinclair. Trouble is IMO, I don`t think Jim worries about goalscorers in the same way he worries about left backs or wingbacks. |

We must be watching different squads. We have 28 players at present incl 2 keepers. There are 10 defenders and 11 midfielders on call (incl wingbacks) We have 5 strikers. Smith is out for some time. Mani D is just back from long-term injury with half a game under his belt. He is 31. Duku-looks to be OK as a backup. He is 33. Rodney- needs to be "managed" apparently. Unbeatable on his day. Hendo- what is there still to say? He is 41. There is a wealth of experience there, but surely there is a huge risk in the department that is there to score goals. |

The "separate argument" you mention being the inability to convert chances, backed up by the very poor goal contribution from midfield in the last 2 seasons. I find it disappointing that voices are appearing that say we will not match York when we are only halfway through the season. We cannot match their goalscoring or probably their goal difference, but we have every chance of matching their points. We may never get another chance like this. In 70 years of supporting the Dale, we have never won anything- a title. This is the best chance I have experienced. We are one striker short of a good squad. How many of the younger squad members will be with us next season I wonder? UTD |

Since the York league defeat we have been amazingly lucky to have 9 games against "lesser" opponents. Positions 18th/13th/15th/17th/23rd/9th/24th/10th/22nd. I cant remember a run like that. We all know what is coming up the next few weeks. Great to see Mani D back and Hendo firing, But we`ve now lost Tyler Smith with a hamstring for several weeks. Surely we must get a striker in urgently-what we have needed all season. We will need Mani D, Duku,Hendo and more if we are to score the necessary goals and stop missing so many opportunities. This season is the big one. |

That`s a very cryptic reply. Do you know anything or just being mysterious? It will be very interesting to see what attack Jim puts out tonight. |

Has anyone heard about Mani De`s injury.? Jim is making no reference to it in interview. Also Mani Du asked to be taken off on Saturday after taking a knock. All the more surprising that Tyler Smith remained on the bench throughout. Only 1-0 at that time thanks to Amantchi`s 2 dreadful misses. |

Now there`s an idea. He would frighten York to death. Trouble is he`s now on top of the league. |

Nice to know that Jim can race out and get 3 useful-looking new defenders at the drop of a hat like this. Pity he can`t do the same with the attack, I wish Manni Duku all the success in the world but he was not quite what I was hoping for. We play the bottom 2 teams starting tomorrow (with Solihull between)so this is a great chance to improve the goal difference which is already good and may be vital at season end. Not the time for classic McNulty-ball i would suggest, especially with Southend and the February games looming. But does Jim think like that I wonder? |
