Interesting facts about Preston North End. Between 1982 and the turn of the Century we never played them once. When we did it ended 0-0. |

Preston North End, away, on a bank holiday. Surely there must be some law against this? |

To be fair, the other younger centre backs are injured as much if not more than Cook. |

Pleased about that. His own game has been good and seems to have had a good impact on Dunne, Morrison and JCS. |

Didn’t realise it’s only him and Tiger who’ve managed the grand slam in the last sixty years. Phenomenal achievement and shows how hard a game golf is. |

Can’t believe what I’m seeing. Got money on Rory but I wouldn’t mind if Rose pulls this off. |

Think refs been told to take a conciliatory approach to greater strength fouls and clamping down on the sly and petulant fouls, hence Colback and Smyth getting their respective yellow cards. Dembele gets roughed up far too easily, doesn’t make it a foul. |

He’s a strange one. Played well, didn’t have a massive amount of defending to do as Bristol tended to attack down our right, but did his job and that was a critical header he won at the far post near the end. Sadly he seems to be addicted to that pass infield when we’re overloaded and always causes an almighty scramble defensively. That said, given our season long inability to play a through ball, his passes that put Celar through at Cardiff and Watford means he gets a golden ticket from me just for that. There’s a player there if he just sticks to the basics. |

Shades on, feet up and a water break every ten minutes, and that’s just me. Expecting a 0-2 repeat of end of season game versus this lot a couple of years ago but I actually don’t care, we’re staying up. Oh and a respectful round of applause for three particularly likeable ex players. |

Wasn’t the most successful a two week break in Cornwall? |

64 countries is ridiculous. However, if they said the top 32 seeds qualify automatically so we could abandon international breaks then I’d be happy to go along with it. |

Very true. It does worry me that Marti can’t see what is staring him in the face. It’s not even as if the football becomes less watchable when we string three across central midfield, obviously we were winning games but the performances during the winter were actually getting us on the edge of our seats. It’s not as if our attack becomes less effective either, in fact if Dembele and Chair were fit at the same time I think even they’d function better if they were a two man either side of the centre forward. Feels Marti has done a good job getting this club away from the drop zone whilst handicapping us from going higher, if that makes any sense at all?! |

Lovely report. Filled me in as I missed most of the game. It feels like most of our successes this season come when we play a three across centre midfield yet whenever the injuries recede Marti defaults to three behind the forward and we are less successful. You’d think he might have cottoned on to the issue by now. |

I’m still recovering from Danny Shittu playing centre forward against Leeds. |

Just watched that cracker of a curler into the top corner but the celebratory knee slide was distinctly league two standard. For that reason, I won’t be investing and I’m out. |
 | Forum Reply | Is Nourry that bad? at 11:30 10 Apr 2025
This club was a basketcase long before Nourry arrived, you don’t sort that out in one season. Injuries, there’s something wrong there but that’s not down to Nourry. CF position, well that is, but again we’ve struggled in that department since 2015. As for the need of left backs, right backs, they’re two a penny these days, can’t imagine that Cardiff lad would cost much if they went down, they’ll replace them. Keepers fine, need another CB. Centre mid I think had been decent this season and they’ll be here next season. The three behind the CF is on Marti, or more how he sets us up. That is critical. Regards the title of this thread I reckon if he invites Clive round for a chat and a beer this will all die down 😂 |

What a relief! Got home at the 65th minute to see they’d pulled a goal back and crosses raining in one after another. Expected the worst but quality run and pass from Dembele and the type of finish from Yang which, let’s be honest, we don’t really possess in our own squad, finally got us over the line. Loved the celebrations at the corner flag. We’ve actually been more consistent this season than any other season I’ve witnessed, can’t beat any of the top 8, beat virtually all of the bottom 7. That is unusual for us. Don’t think we’ve fielded a full strength side once this entire season. That makes this team very difficult to define. I’m actually more hopeful for next season. Whereas in recent years we haven’t had a bench that can come in and do any kind of meaningful job, now we have. The problem has been they’ve spent too much time on the pitch due to the many injuries. Who knows what goes on beyond the pitch but we need to sort out why we get so many non contact injuries. We know the area we are weak, we have to play a system that’ll suit Dembele, play through him. And god knows we need a reliable centre forward who knows this Division. It’ll probably go wrong but we’re not that far away plus it’ll be another crap league next year. |

6 weeks ago I’d pinned my hopes on Swansea and Preston being over the 50 point mark and on their Easter holidays. That’s unlikely to be the case now. It’s a sad indictment that earlier every year I’m looking down the fixture list for potential beach based opposition to get us out of another hole. |
