Also got to take into account scoreboard pressure on York if we keep winning. That goes both ways. If and when we drop points we should not panic. |

I think if we do get over 100 points, but end up getting pipped by York we should tip our hats and say what a great achievement, but we were beaten by a better team. Which ever way it goes if we get into triple points would be remarkable achievement. |

As it stands we can afford to drop 7 more points than York. So in true R17ALE stylee, at the moment we require 53 runs from 20 balls. I’m sure that number will come down as York won’t win every game. Our form over the first 20 games and the last 20 games is the same 49 points. Can we replicate that over the last 20 games? If we could it would be 113 points and that would be more than enough. Personally I think we will be around 106points. If York gets that then fair apply to them. [Post edited 31 Jan 18:53]

It was quite funny as on the episode the week before the Macc fan on this pod cast was stating York would walk the league by 8 pts. This week it was it’s definitely going to the last game of the season, winner takes all. |

It wasn’t specifically about your post d_alien, I agree somewhat with putting more first time crosses. I think alrakhia is someone who tries. But sometimes getting the ball into the box quickly is an option that would be taken It was more on the general points made on the thread that we don’t mix up our attacking style. I think we do have different threats, it’s just we put an emphasis on keeping the ball. When we have a full team we have the ability to play long to front man to hold it up, get down the line and cut it back into the box, play the through ball to the forwards to run on to. The thing that we do lack is genuine pace. [Post edited 23 Jan 11:47]

I think to be fair it’s not all pass pass pass, how many assists have Whatmuff and Broome had between them. Also lots of goals come from mani d (a) holding it and laying it off, something we have missed. Then there’s the ball into the corner for TAR to run onto and cut it back into the box. I think there is more of a mix than people realise. It’s just we move the ball around to create the opening which in tight games is something that can be frustrating. For my the one thing that is still missing is the shot from distance when it opens up, East aside there seems to be a reluctance, and to be fair to McNulty this has something he’s highlighted. On final point, if you keep the ball then you don’t concede. 16 goals (including 4 in a mad 25 mins at York ) in 24 games proves this. As said earlier in the thread Solihull had been free scoring before Wednesday night and they were restricted to a header and a couple of half arsed shots. Strikers win games, defences win championships! [Post edited 23 Jan 9:04]

I think we should not fall into the trap of overlooking Boreham wood. They have been consistent all season and have strengthened. (I expected them to fall away) In January York play Boreham Wood, Carlisle then Forrest green first game in Feb. If that’s a mixed bag of results from them and we maintain our current form in January then that gap against York will only increase. That will ramp up the pressure on them in Feb while all the others battle it out. For me a big part of York’s season will be decided in the next four weeks. If those three games ended in draws, that may be them done. We still might need something in the last game against York but to beat prevent another team beating us to top spot [Post edited 28 Dec 2025 10:28]

If we assume that 100 pts will get close to the title all the other teams will need to improve their points per game over the second half of the season to reach that target, where we have some advantage with more games left and already more points on the board. It’s definitely our form with will dictate where we finish. Rochdale (2.45) 1.96 pts per game to get 100 Forrest green (2.09) 2.25 pts per game Carlisle (2.09) 2.25 pts per game York (2.14) 2.2 pts per game Boreham Wood (2.1) 2.24 pts per game (Current points per game in brackets) With a favourable run of fixtures in dec and jan If we continue winning that’s really going to pile the pressure on the others not to drop points. I agree that York are the ones likely to challenge us as there the team whose form is improving and could post a higher points total But we have an opportunity to make this amazing start to the season count come May [Post edited 20 Dec 2025 0:12]

The problem is prolonged rain over a period of time saturating the pitch. Covering the pitch only protects the surface but the water still has to drain away. You could see during the Man U game the pitch had reached saturation point and couldn’t drain away. Although it wasn’t constantly raining, the rain fall over the period between the Man U game and Tuesday night meant the water level was still significantly high enough to prevent the pitch from drying out. It doesn’t matter if there’s been no rain a day or two before a game if there has been substantial rain between games that’s not allowed a saturated pitch to drain. Covers really can’t be used for anything other than protect the surface of the pitch from heavy rain when it’s had time to dry . If there is a large amount of rain over a sustained period with all the will in the world it will get on the pitch. What we need is a run of a good few dry days or days without persistent rain that allows whatever water is being held in the pitch to drain, then try and protect pitch from any rain once it’s dry. From the update Monday we know the club are doing other things to try and drain/dry the pitch so the question should be how effective will this be as a short term approach. In the best case scenario we can get through the winter with two or three postponements then we may be ok. It’s far from ideal. But one we get November out of the way there are limited home games through December and January . If we can’t do that, then spending more money on more covers is not a viable option. If there were covers that would guarantee protection to the surface, I think we would have taken them. So in the worse case other venues may be a more viable if more distasteful option. If we were to try and move to another ground for home games, from December I think only one scheduled home league fixture would clash with an Oldham home game Tamworth in March). Think in terms of fixtures that might be the easiest. Accy would clash quite a bit towards the end of the season. That all said I think we are a long way off that yet. [Post edited 4 Nov 2025 22:48]

For once you’re right Rob, they were very different situations. Our trust fought tooth and nail to force out the charlatan who tried to take our club. Didn’t Your trust signed it over, lock stock and barrel ? [Post edited 24 Oct 2025 12:12]

Not looking to far, the next three games could be telling. In the next three games for those at the top: Borehamwood - York (A) Forest Green (H) Halifax - York (H) Carlisle (A) Forest Green - Borehamwood (H) Carlisle (A) York - Halifax (A) Borehamwood (H) Carlisle - Forest Green (A) Halifax (H) Rochdale - Scunthorpe (H) Scunthorpe- Rochdale (A) If we could win our next three games a real gap could start to open [Post edited 9 Oct 2025 10:45]

All you can do is look how we have started this year. As you say comparing is pointless. In any level of competition to make the start we have should be applauded. I’m enjoying where we are, and daring to believe we might just get out of this god forsaken division after a just a few seasons,. The team and the management team should be given credit. |

Not too sure that that’s not any different at any club. Players have release clauses etc. Unfortunately it’s the way of life if you can’t cover the bills with any other revenue streams. The thing that may be different now to previous boards, as Keith eludes to, is while it will enviable we will eventually sell players to be sustainable, the Ogdens have the funds so that we can decide when the time is right, rather than derail a season. |
