Saints At Ipswich The Verdict
Saints At Ipswich The Verdict
Tuesday, 3rd Mar 2009 22:15

Even the Ipswich fans applauded Saints off the field at the end.

Saints gave notice of intent in the battle for survival with a superb  3-0 win at Portman Road, quite simply confidence oozed out of every pore even though they left it late to make doubly sure.

The travelling support thought they had scored in the 28th minute but Saeijs effort was ruled out for a push, but two minutes later the ball was whipped in by Andrew Surman and the ball was in the net initially it was given as an own goal but Jason Euell had the last touch, whichever it was Saints took a well deserved half time lead.

The worry was that Saints couldnt play as well in the second, bu they did, they battled hard to deny the Tractor Boys when they got a sight of goal and created their own chances as well, but a fine performance was capped in the final five minutes when Jason Euell made the game safe, but then it got better, only two minutes after coming on as sub Matt Paterson showed his class to tuck away the third, the home fans were heading for the exits but what were left applauded Saints off the pitch.

Sadly both Forest and Plymouth won, meaning that Saints result hadn't enabled them to catch up with them, however they could theoretically come out of the bottom three if they beat Birmingham on Saturday and after this result who would bet against it.
