Spot on, you can't even begin to imagine what that must have been like.
That said, that episode aside its Fawlty Towers for me, a timeless classic.
Strange as it may seem, I liked neither, bit to childish for my taste. Obviously I'm in the minority as they're remembered as classic comedies for most

I'm more of a book man anyway. Reading up on the Korean war at the moment, i did not realise they had it so tough out there, i should have really, as my grandad used to tell me all about it when i was a kid.

Try to get hold of a couple of Andrew Salmon's books: Scorched Earth, Black Snow and To The Last Round. Excellent reads, both.

Dean Waugh, ( brother of great Aussie cricketers Mark and Steve) a decent if unspectacular player, had the nickname Korea - as in the "forgotten war".

I once met Carol Cleveland and she told me a story about the owner of a hotel where the Pythons were staying - he was the prototype for Basil Fawlty. I was,of course, enthralled, but also a tad disappointed that it wasn't a completely original creation. Then I heard Paul Whitehouse talking about the real life "suit you, sir" guy he based that sketch on and I realised the genius lies in recognising the eccentricities in the first place. I think Edmund Blackadder is based on Atkinson himself. Now that's impressive. Still think Fawlty Towers is the best sitcom ever though.

FT was great at the time, but was great mainly because John Cleese and Prunella Scales were great. I watched one not that long ago and was surprised at how dated it was.
