We’ve heard this phrase numerous times since the awful events of the last week. It’s the suggestion or accusation that police treat people and events differently based on their race, gender, political beliefs, religion etc.
Several government ministers have since dismissed this notion as a conspiracy theory. The media and ‘fact checking’ websites have been sent in to bat to confidently dismiss the thought labelling it false. The Prime Minister Sir Keir Starmer has also labelled it a conspiracy theory and stated that the law operates “without fear or favour”.
Fair enough I hear you say, that’s the way it should be right?
The massive elephant in the room however is that many of these individuals including members of the current and previous government and the wider media at large have been arguing for several years that there is indeed a two tiered police approach in this country. Reports that the police are systemically and institutionally racist and misogynist were accepted without question. Suggestions that minorities are routinely harassed with disproportionate instances of stop and search or other activities and alleged brutality highlighted the clear ways that the police target ethnic minorities differently based on pre existing prejudices. Anyone who questioned that at the time was accused of racism or being a gammon etc.
Now somehow we have reached a point where the very notion of two tiered policing is dismissed out of hand as being completely ludicrous and impossible. As if the last few years didn’t happen and they weren’t trotting out in front of the cameras as often as possible to decry the awful police and their terrible bias. Taking the knee to violent protests, demanding the defunding of the police etc.
The question I have been finding myself thinking more than ever lately is do they honestly think we’re that stupid?
Without digging into the detail I would surmise that the huge majority of those “newly created jobs” would be in the so called gig economy. Low pay, no guaranteed work, no rights, no holiday, sick or maternity pay. Can be dumped at a moments notice.
Exploitation essentially.
No money to feed their kids properly but money enough to keep these idiots on electric bikes delivering more processed crap to be devoured by the feckless in an ever expanding market.

Ive wondered about that I always had a practical ,hands on job. What exactly in IT do they do ? I don’t think yiu can afford a 1.8 m home by working for someone . They must have their own businesses but in what ? They can’t all be footballers and Ai haven’t seen Rafa or his wife around for a while

Look carefully and you will be surprised how often if you order something it is recorded on a hand held device, even a coffee.

Last job I had in plod was in Incident room where he computers were inadequate for the workload and the employed IT people spent a lot of time with me .. To a man ,they looked ready to keel over with stress.
I know he’s not everybody’s cup of tea but when he’s not being overly pompous and insulting people just for the sake of it there’s few better analytical commentators than Mr Starkey. It’s a long video and he ends up rambling a bit towards the end but I would highly recommend watching the first few minutes where he dissects the differing approaches to policing towards certain groups that we have seen lately. It’s a very succinct summing up of the situation that we have somehow landed ourselves in.

Yes probably, but it hits a whole new level when you have a very senior police chief telling a group to “go and leave your weapons in the mosque so we don’t have to arrest you”.
We need to find out what gestures were involved, but at face value the people outside the coach seem more deserving of police attention than the driver.
