Johnny Walker retiring 21:41 - Oct 6 with 843 viewsvetchonian

The great Johnny Walker announced today he will be standing down from his Radio 2 ahows at the end of this month.

Enjoyed his Radio 1 show back in my teens when he played some great music he introduced us to the Eagles.

Met him just before covid struck a down to earth guy..did a great live sounds of the 70s night with a band all of which werent born then.
He had some great stories which he couldnt sahre on air ...the guy is dieing sadly.
He will be much missed but his Sunday shownid being taken over by anothet great "whispering" Bob Harris who has roots in Pontardawe.

The man really is a legend, so many memories throughout my life, I hope he can enjoy the time he has left.

I used to do impersonations of whispering Bob Harris . People at the back used to shout out "Speak up I cant hear you."

He is a truly great DJ and his show is just about the only thing I listen to on Radio 2 these days. He comes across as a really nice guy. He’ll be a hard act to follow, Bob Harries who also comes across as a tidy bloke will be a good choice to take over. Sad news.

Yes , caught one of his comments closing todays broadcast , cryptic yet obvious , so sad and a go to Sunday Show was regular listening for me .

Very candid on his health issues on a recent Tracks of my Years feature , he was struggling .

Him and Whispering Bob were the best , OGWT was another watch show for us oldies .

Had the misfortune to be in my workplace this week , Radio 1 or something like that was full of giggling presenters , phone in and tell us a funny story nonsense , appreciate that is not their demographic target like me , but it was awful listening to that so called music .

Only fear have about Bob Harris is he waffles on a bit , no big deal and easy going chat .

Johnny Walker , quick intro and onto the music as it should be . hope to hear him back again on the Radio soon .

BBC people are grossly overpaid for what they do and consequently hang around well past their best. It seems Johny himself made the call due to his failing health. He is 79.

I pay for the BBC and would like to see them force people out and give young talent it's chance. If you notice almost all BBC people who are pensioned off whinge and. Slag off the organisation once the gravy train has ended.

Moyles was one. Lawrenson as a pundit has laughably claimed discrimination.. I suspect the BBC are fearful of bad press and keep old fogeys on far too long.

Wise sage since Toshack era
