I have found the NHS to be very good in my experience but it is coming under a lot of criticism and so is the Senedd. Tha people can complain but if they want better services they will have to pay more.

We have in global terms a cheap service. The cost of private health show you how expensive these provisions are . Pay more get a better service

We in Wales can get better funding with a swipe of a pen. We gave fallen behind England and need to catch up . Around £624m would be saved by abolishing FREE PRESCRIPTION CHARGES.. Want the same service? Then get in with it. We are a democracy. It is about £20 a citizen. Older people in properties with £250k plus fully paid off are pleading poverty.

My wife works in the nhs at a fairly decent level in primary care. Is dedicated and takes her job seriously and is commited. However, the stuff she comes back with about staff taking the piss (not all but sufficent to effect the standard of service) and doing things that would lead to the sack in the private sector. Managers are wishy washy and cant manage because they are afraid of the unions.

My wife is NHS too and I can back you up there., she often moans about people taking the piss In fact I've heard (from friends who work there) that whistleblowers often come off worse and end up leaving with a pay off, after signing an NDA while the source of the whistling is left to carry on. One of my friends, a nurse had to move sites after making a complaint, the person she complained about remained, she felt she was punished for raiising a concern.

First paragraph, the NHS could be much better managed, the changes to trusts has been a cock up and more money is wasted than before with outcomes getting worse too.

Second paragraph, private healthcare doen't reflect the real costs of treatments are but shows what happens when profits are put before outcomes. For example, you can buy a box of paracetamol in a chemist but when a doctor prescribes the same size box the cost is around 15-20 times more. It's a bloody poor management and governance, these contracts were signed meaning the NHS pays a lot more than off the shelf at chemists and supermarkets and it makes me wonder who profited from these deals, besides the big pharma companies.

Last paragraph, those older people in big houses with no mortgage, they are most likely OAP's struggling to get by and cannot afford more. The pragmatist in me says they should sell up and downsize, use the spare cash to live on and have a more comfortable retirement but many people feel an attachment to the family home and can't face leaving. Maybe I am too much a pragmatist? I'd sell up and move and use the spare cash for lots of holidays!

A final thought on the over all content, if you expect Westminster to give us loads more then you will be disappointed. If you expect the enedd to do better, you will be disappointed. If you think it is simply a case of pay more get better then you are on the wrong track.
The NHS needs root and branch changes, better structure, better management, better oversight from politicians, in other words there's no chance. The poor staff do their best with limited resources, well the good staff do. There atre too many these days who don't really care, it's a pay packet these days to many, not a vocation.

To back up the observations about staff, one of my neighbours works on a high dependency ward. She has numerous stories that are not acceptable, the latest is about a patient who was being maintained by machines, when they sadly died to the consultant and anaesthetist refused to turn off the equipment because " the next shift can do it "

How on earth people think this is okay is beyond me.

Regarding OAPs moving , not so simple for a lot who rely on a network to help out with care welfare and the basics , we’ve considered moving from a 3 bed to a small bungalow but we’ve found that a bungalow which are available to buy tend to be dearer that the value of our home or if cheaper need work so we’ll have stay put . We’ve all heard the stories about the cost of a light bulb inside a hospital and the hoops that needs to go through and that is replicated throughout the NHS .

That's disgusting and shows no consideration and worst or all compassion for the person that died or their family members JMaB

I see the three up arrows as a validation actually, when I check who they were from. I was a whistle blower on my time and as all Whistle blowers know, all your supporters disappear when push comes to shove. We a a cowardly people.

The post was not a wind up. It was simple assessment that is Welsh people want parity with England the first thing we need to do is free up the £600m + blown on free prescriptions charges. I am not immune from this myself so it is not self interest. People prefer to blame the NHS or Senedd.

You continue to go after the poster rather than the topic along with your sidekick Max. You see this with forums. The rump of regular s like to control the narrative. This saw the end of a previous forum I was on. I will not be gaslighted.

Pensioners should not be allowed to shelter their wealth in bricks and mortar. They can have a pensioners low cost loan to pay for prescriptions deducted on execution of the estate will. Rich people should not be on any benefits.

I highlighted the problems and typically offered a solution. This is because I do not whinge.

I'm no ones side kick! People up arrow posters when they post accurate comments and with common sense and honesty.

You whinge non stop when you are rightly pulled up on posts you make, everyone else is to blame in your deluded mind, look at yourself you want to.

I like to think I give a little extra energy to the forum. I start threads and debate enthusiastically as Welsh patriot. No threads no forum.

What do you think of scrapping prescription fees and freeing up £624m extra for front line services ? I would also remove dentistry ( other than emergencies)
