Yeh when I was progressing through the refereeing ranks as a youngster this came up a lot. If I was in the middle I would basically ask my linos for everything, I wanted as much information as I could get to make the best decisions. What I often found happening when I was on the line for more senior referees is they'd take one look at me and my age and immediately say they only want offside and throw ins - I'm not under any circumstances allowed to start flagging for free kicks. The logic I guess is if you've got a referee with vastly more experience than the lino they're going to perhaps have different opinions over what constitutes a foul or not. You've also got referees like Mark Halsey used to be who are very happy to let things go, who wouldn't then want to be railroaded into giving a load of fouls by having a fussy bstrd like Steve Martin on the line. This is particularly acute around penalties - you really don't want to be in a position as a referee where the lino flags for a penalty you don't want to give because it's very difficult for you to still say no while the lino is flagging for it (though I have seen that happen). Personally I think it often shows a lack of self confidence in the main referee. Worried about being overruled, made to look stupid etc. I think it looks absolutely pathetic when they're both staring at each other waiting for the secret signal over which way a poxy throw in is. Oliver Langford is really bad for this - every throw in in his matches there's this long drawn out process where the officials stare at each other and try to simultanously raise arm and flag in the same direction. The other thing to bear in mind now is at the pro level they're all micd up. So just because the lino isn't flagging, doesn't mean he's not in the referee's ear going "penalty, penalty, penalty" and then the ref is making a call. I had a Lincs cup final at Gainsborough Trinity one night where I was 16-17 years old, and some retired Football League referee waltzes into the dressing room before hand giving it the big I am. He took one look at me and told me he didn't want me to flag for anything - including offsides. If I thought it was offside I was to stand still, and if he agreed he would blow and I should raise my flag at that point. Absolute fcking bell end. I made very sure that within the first five minutes I did a big, extravagant flagging for a free kick right in front of the main stand

Saudi Arabia will pay whatever you want so the "impact" will be the super rich get super richer therefore it'll be happening sooner rather than later. |

Like so much else in our sport, rapidly heading towards the American model where they don't care if you're 6, 36 or 66, you're a bum on a seat and that seat costs this much (plus $36 "arena fee", plus $25 "booking fee", plus $10 "city tax" of course). If they've got 60,000 seats to sell it's not in their interest to have any of those filled with kids or oldies at a discount. |

Pulling a purely hypothetical situation out of thin air, if I had a son in our academy and was unhappy about what I'd seen there I'd want to be very careful about going into much detail beyond "it's a sht show and long overdue a clear out" on here for fear of it becoming clear who I was and damaging my lad's chances. |

Nah that's the one and only example where I was delighted to see us concede, but I have a raw, raw passionate hatred of Man Utd. My younger brother says he enjoys Man Utd losing more than he does QPR winning |

One I don't really remember the chat around because I was too young, but when Blackburn won the league they did it despite Liverpool beating them on the last day and only because Miklosko had a worldie for West Ham against Man Utd. Shouldn't Liverpool have been in proper roll over and die mode for King Kenny? |

Aren't they steadily bumping it to 65? Or are they going higher than that? Annoying for you guys. |

A distinctly mediocre player who we nevertheless wanted and tried repeatedly to sign over several years and several entirely different managers, then when we finally got him handed him a four year contract and it turned out the manager didn't want him and never picked him, all while Paladini was overseeing the transfers. |

Doing away with the away goals rule basically does leave you wide open to teams doing exactly what we did in Wigan - kill the first leg altogether and make it a one off tie at home. |

Think it was on the WLS podcast they mentioned he only got the Birmingham move because dad called in a favour with Mowbray. Got his break at Ipswich, where dad's a legend. There certainly seems to be some degree of nepotism at work here, especially when you watch him play. |

Then spent the next four months to January saying he didn't have a right back and we'd have to buy one. God I hated that cnt. |

Our team wins about 31% of its games. When Colback plays it wins around 46%. When Dozzell plays it wins around 15 %. |
