Youve proved my point, scoring shed loads in the academy leagues is no guarantee of success in the Championship and above, Jimmy Jay Morgan a contemporary of Ballards, sold to Chelsea at the same time as Dibling, for about £3.5 million plus add ons etc. Started this season valued at about £70k although with 4 goals for Peterborough it is now risen to £150k He was meant to be be much better than Ballard. I liked Ballard, im glad he has done well at Orient, but lets be honest we weren't creaming over him when he was failing to score at Blackpool & Cambridge who were hardly biting off our hands to sign him |

A Southampton game is usually the place to go if you want mistakes and goals |

They were playing that type of game long before we were |

How to become a Saints legend part 1. Play a dozen or so games with no one suggesting that you are good enough for the League we are in, then leave for a League 1 club or a club in a minor European League and score handful of goals and before you know it you are being touted as a great player by those who previously ridiculed you |

Signing for one of the biggest clubs in the world doesn't mean you are good enough to play for them, most of the big clubs tend to buy players to sell them on and be able to manipulate the financial fair play rule |

Just watching him play for Burnley, i had forgotten he had gone there, I'm surprised that they paid £20 million for him, given that since leaving Saints in May 2022, he has suffered a lot of injury issues and scored only 1 League goal in 43 games before joining Burnley, he makes Ross Steward look a bargain |

If 6 years at the club, 190 games, 108 goals and playing a big part in getting us promoted to the top flight for the first time with 30 goals in 39 games doesnt make him a legend then i am not sure what does. Rickie Lambert played a similar number of games and scoring roughly the same amount of goals, some of them in League 1, he is considered a legend so what is the difference |

My next-door neighbour’s son asked if he could do odd jobs to earn some pocket money. I said he could paint the porch. When he came back to get paid, he said: "By the way, that was a BMW, not a Porsche." |

Not a lot of people know this, but Phil Oakey, lead singer in the Human League had a sister who was also a very accomplished but underrated singer. Her name was 'Carrie'. She never really fulfilled her potential as she couldn't remember all the lyrics. |

Downs goes to Germany and scores a few and then everyone will be moaning that he wasn't played enough. Look how Tall Paul went from absolute zero and worse signing ever to the one we should have kept |

Its an option, if he doesnt play or turns out worse than Bazunu then we can send him back, in many respects this man has a worse cv than Mateusz Lis, Peretz has barely played in 2 1/2 years, who has been lambasted on here as being evidence of why Sport Republic are using us a way to buy and sell players, yet no one is saying that with Perez, so desperate are they to see Bazunu dropped. |

Spors was at the club for the last few months of the season he joined in February, he would have seen Stephens play 8 times after that in a team that was getting walloped. I would suggest that Stephens was entitled to a new contract as he had played a certain number of games which is fairly common. The 3 year deal looked a bit long I agree, but I think the contract itself had to be given to him contractually , it could have been that the extra years were also part of some loyalty deal perhaps in lieu of a testimonial match. We dont actually know that Stephens is a bad egg (Inm not going argue about his playing ability lol), as i have mentioned we are only speculating about the players that Alfie House would keep, not why he hasnt included certain individuals on his list to keep. |
 | Forum Reply | Head Coach vs Manager at 13:08 6 Jan 2026
His job title was "Head Coach" & not manager, so how Amorim wasnt clear about what his role was i dont know. Im not sure why Jason Wilcox is being linked to Saints as he presided over our promotion season as well as some good signings. Head Coach and manager are just titles these days, the reality is that all clubs have a recruitment process that identifies potential targets and the manager gets involved at a later stage. One post on this thread says that Lawrie McMenemy wouldn't have accepted this but that was 40-50 years ago, what McMenmy had to accept was that he would spent many an evening travelling the country to watch a player in action, because there were not great scouting systems in operation back then. In fact as it went on McMenemy would set up a network of scouts to cover various regions so he would not have to do it all. It's not just Eckert & Still who accept this, it is anyone who manages/head coaches a club, they all have systems in place and the manager has to adapt to that There isn't one club in the World that could have a manager running the club in the way it happened 40 years ago. Times have moved on, you wouldnt insist that Tonda Eckert drives a sponsored Vauxhall Viva because that what McMenemy drove in 1975 |

Why would Spors position be untenable, he inherited the situation none of the players who could allegedly be being disruptive were signed under his watch. If he is briefing the media, it shows he is in charge of the situation. Not every player who House would not want to keep would be part of the clique, some would be just because in House's own opinion they are not up to the job, ie Romeu, who was not here during Russell Martin and Will Still so would only know Eckert. As the regard the fans forum, what would you expect, no one is actually going to say anything other than the party line, Spors was hardly going to hold his hands up and say I dont know what the club were playing at |
