If you look at the statistics around rape it's horrendous really, 71,000 rapes reported every year & only 6% reaching prosecution (data: Rape Crisis).
Rape Crisis figures are just England and Wales, not UK. They estimate that only 15% of rapes are reported. So the actual annual figure is around 477,000 rapes. Of those, the number of convicted rapists (63% of those that get to court, CPS data) the figure is ~2,600.
From rape, to reporting, to prosecution, to conviction, the proportion of rapists being convicted is 0.55%.
So the proportion of rape victims not seeing justice: 99.5%.
I think we can all agree that's a disgrace and shows how incompetent the system is in regards this crime.
The fact that there's been a real meaningful conviction in the case of Brand is surely a positive though |

I'm sorry nick but you're badly wrong on this one, just because someone has given consent once doesn't mean that consent is forever.
Even if the woman knew the likelihood if she didn't give consent in that specific moment it's rape.
Also the time to court isn't surprising in the slightest, a lot of women fear humiliation, reprisal and being re-traumatised in this types of cases, and the vast majority simply never report them in the first place.
The type of language and thinking that says "well she had a threesome so clearly she was up for it" is exactly the kind of shaming that stops them from speaking up.
Anyway at the end of the day what we think doesn't matter because a court made a decision and he's now looking at a long sentence, with possibly more to years to follow when the other cases land |

I thought he'd been charged with 1 charge of rape and 2 charges of sexual assault? Also it sounds like there's another two charges coming which have been referred to the CPS including 1 that's rape of a 16 year old girl.
I very much doubt this has anything to do with a conspiracy about his largely irrelevant media content, and much more to do with the fact that's he's a massive f*cking wrong un with a history of abusing women. |

It’s not about being cool though it’s just that they’re not really relevant. They caught us cheating we held our hands up, we got punished. Move on. Let them be the weird over the top Karen’s who work themselves up.
They’re very much the Bournemouth of the north east, no real rivals so try and start things with others, we’ve got real rivals, bitter ones we f*cking hate at that, and the best thing to do is don’t feed the media or their weird fans and just get on with it.
Let the game eat them up and let them put pressure on themselves, if can only make them more likely to bottle it |

that skinny block is our block, technically it's in the away end. I'm currently bartering with work to finish early for it as i've run out of annual leave for the year now i've got xmas booked in, and if i can't get that to work i'll have to miss it as i finish work at 6pm and that's not enough time to get down from london |

Something special is happening at Saints with Tonda, we've only lost 2 games all season, we've won 7 out of 8 home games, drawing the remaining one. We've got the joint best goal difference in the league, We've got the joint third top scorer in the league (despite having played less games than those around him), without the minus four we'd be top of the league, we haven't lost to any of the top 12 sides we've played, in fact more than that we've beaten most of them, and arguably we haven't even played at our best yet this season.
This side and this manager are a very good, Tonda has them drilled to be brutally consistent, and i wouldn't be surprised in the slightest if we won the league.
And on top of all of that we're doing it with very little attention because our league position is false due to the points deduction.
The next few games are two awful sides in Preston and Derby who we should hammer, Sheffield United who blow hot and cold, and obviously the league leaders Boro. I'm going to stick my neck out here and say by the end of that run we'll be top two at a minimum.
This is not a normal Saints side, and Tonda is not a normal Saints manager |

Exactly how i see it too, somber remembrance and a quiet moment of reflection on the horrendous loss of human life caused by war is what it's about.
It's instead been hijacked by ultra nationalist performance inspired by the US and politicised.
I personally like the last post and like the chance to spend some time considering the past, but i dislike the WHERE'S YOUR POPPY? brigade. |

I think it's unlikely they'll close block 21/20 to be honest, it's half empty most games and a single isolated issue isn't going to make them do it.
Personally i think the balance is spot on right now, you have the northam for the people that like singing liverpool songs and the old man corner in the chapel for those that like a laugh and watching the game. |

The skirmish was one of the family stand who decided to have a conversation with the away fans about their manners
1. Saints are a good team, i can't remember a saints side this consistent in a long time and i'm starting to think we've got a shot at winning the league
2. The minutes silence was a complete sh*t show, no idea why so many people can't listen to or understand basic instructions
3. Town pre game was heaving, don't know if it was the football, the ships or early xmas shoppers but i've not seen it that busy in a long time
4. QPR's support has to be strangest bunch i've seen at St Mary's in a long time, they went through the lower league song book quicker than Pat goes through the saints one, engaged in absolute pantomime anger, and one mush with a flat cap looked one more line off a heart attack in the away end. Really summed up how two bit modern support is to be honest, and i was surprised given QPR are usually one of the better london clubs
5. Going to games right now, especially at home, is fun again, we're scoring a lot of goals, playing great football and level one is a quality addition (who doesn't love a half time double brandy) |

I’m a big fan of cinematic orchestra, fun fact the head of marketing for ninja tune (and an artist of his own right) was the person who brought thundercat to the uk and signed him for ninja tune’s sister label.
He is also a sotonian who I went to school with and a saints fan.
I actually didn’t know that GP book but I think you’ve just helped me with a Xmas present |

I've been enjoying it, there's a couple of weaker tracks but on the whole it's a strong lp, reminds me a lot of Terry Callier.
The new Moses Boyd dropped today if you've not heard it, wonderful record and one of the best of the year for me.
Have to say i think this year has been an incredibly strong year for new music, so much brilliant stuff dropped, would be really hard to pick a top five |

Not sure how true it is but i remember a story at the time that the people building the "new" baths had gone for an olympic length but not taken into account the tiles, so when the pool was complete it was half a cm short of qualifying for official olympic length.
Could be one of those urban myths as there was a few at the time (anyone remember the razor blades in the flume/whip story that i think every nipper in the city had heard) |
