Damn straight! I'd rather have a fans forum on which the members can write, think and show a bit of interest in things other than just footie. If people on certain other boards think of us as frustrated literary types then I'd take that as a compliment to us all!

The fact that you can read and not write (and I don't mean text speak) probably makes you considerably more literate than most on WATRB.

Decided to take the time to retrain my brain and have completed 2/3rds of an accountancy course that will eventually leave me able to work from home alongside the care duties.

Head gardener on a new build mansion on the isle of man, the new monaco apparently. Garden designed by an architect whose catchphrase was 'I don't do practical'. Try telling that to living tissue, dick. Currently ripping out thousands of pounds worth of dead/dieing plants.
blackbirds are stripping my fruit bushes.
slugs have taken my flowers.
ground nesting wasps persecute me.
but sometimes the job is wonderful.

Was the course expensive? Desperate to learn some new skills that means I won't be doing unskilled Manuel labour into my 50's. Maths was always my strongpoint, my only decent exam grade and have always regretted not putting it to better use when I was younger, currently doing the caring role myself for two of my sons with Autism.

I'm Cornish and me and my brothers wondered why you couldn't buy a pasty outide Cornwall, so we set up West Cornwall Pasty Co, selling up for many millions when we reached 55 shops. Lovely jubbly :-)

Sadly, after we sold (luckily for me), our wonderful, corrupt, greedy government brought in the Pasty tax, claiming 20% on all pasty sales. We never made more than 20% in any of our shops, so that basically fcuked West Cornwall Pasty Co up the arse overnight and they recently went into administration, shutting most of their units overnight and costing hundreds of jobs. They've subsequently been bought out for a fraction of what we got by a conglomerate headed by Danny Mills.

I have found this hread interesting.

I used to love the veggie pasties, but always had this entirely mischievous and unnecessary urge to ask the eastern European girl serving which part of Cornwall she was from because I didn't recognise her accent. (Absolutely no anti-immigrant sentiment intended......... just some part of me always expected/wanted a real Cornish pirate accent when I bought my pasty..... no matter where I was in the country.)

Yes, trying to do it again now in fact. We had to sign forms saying we wouldn't open any more shops for several years, but that has now passed, so we have opened two shops in Clapham junction, one opening in Reading station in a fortnight. Not as easy as it was though, Pasty tax scuppered it completely.

It was bloody cool; we were, quite literally, bankrupt and homeless, borrowed money for the first shop, squatted illegally in the basement, no tv, no bathroom etc. Never expected it to go as well as it did. By the end, had all of our mates from school in the top jobs and stuff. Prince Charles (as the Duke of Cornwall) actually came to our party! He was a really, really nice man, spoke with interest to everybody. Camilla was, predictably, a bit stuffy, but Charlie boy a proper gentleman. It was an amazing journey.

Veggie Pasty? Dear God why?

To be fair, although our workforce was indeed overwhelmingly eastern European or south American, we used only Cornish materials to build the shops, only Cornish workmen, sourced all ingredients in Cornwall, gave tonnes of money to Cornish charities and sponsored a Cornwall day each year in Covent Garden, whereby we'd actually bring up our Helston town band for the day and do the flora dance around Covent Garden piazza. So it was as Cornish a company as you'll find anywhere. And all the head office and stuff went to my school. And we sponsored London Cornish RUFC (in fact i played for them (well, the second team) a few times).

You just can't get the lazy Cornish buggers to work in a shop.
