The election results thread 19:10 - Jun 8 with 56511 viewsexiledclaseboy

Polls close 10pm. BBC, ITV and SKY release the results of their joint exit poll also at 10pm. Some of you may remember election night two years ago when the exit poll predicted a Tory win. It was roundly ridiculed by politicians of all parties and most us on here. You could see Professor John Curtice (who oversees the poll) visibly wilting and wondering if he'd just wrecked his career and reputation. The same Prof Curtice got progressively more smug as the night rolled on and it turned out his poll was more or less spot on.

First result due about 11pm. From Sunderland.

The outcome may be a foregone conclusion but it should be exciting for about an hour or so.

Get it stickied for 24 hours or so please, mods.

Oh, and can someone keep Perch and Bluey away from sharp objects please. Just in case.

Poll: Tory leader

That's a little unfair. UKIP succeeded in getting us out of the EU. (I'm a Remainer.) If people call for a 2nd referendum then they'll come back.

What's fascinating to me is that UKIP doesn't seem so far to have acted as a gateway drug to the Conservative Party. Labour voters moving to UKIP may not have moved on to vote Tory.

Whatever. The Conservatives are still the largest party. They'll need to clear up the mess that they've created, but I don't think that they have the talented people to do that.

Fascinating or surprising?

Salmons gone too? This gets better.

The creatures outside looked from pig to man, and from man to pig, and from pig to man again; but already it was impossible to say which was which.

Anything other than a significantly increased majority (at least 40/50 I'd say) will have the Tory knives out for Terrible Theresa.

Tories are 1/25 nailed on to win Boston. Ukip 9/1.

Any poll that has ukip winning a seat can be immediately disregarded.

I know ukip voters are unbelievably stupid, but they're not so stupid as to vote ukip, when Theresa will give them everything they want.

Is the wrong answer.

To be fair it was a very plausible answer, but it seems that lots of UKIP voterz are backing anti-establishment candidates (anti-Tory). God bless them.

It's a bad night for everyone but Corbyn.

Farron could lose his seat along with Clegg.
Robertson is gone.
Rudd could be gone.
Sturgeon has had her only policy - independence - destroyed.

No.

Its simply a disaster for Terrible Theresa.

Thats the only story in town.

The people have spoken - and not backed her for her batshit Brexit plans.

She called this election for a mandate for Brexit, she must now resign. Simples.

'Overall, combining the previous costs of running elections and the likely spend in this year's campaigns, the 2017 General Election is estimated to cost around £170m'.

Top job Theresa.....
