Both Managers joined us when we were fighting relegation and both Managers kept us up.
The following summer Warnock signed Derry, Hill Kenny, Mackie, Orr, Helguson and added the diamond Tarabt. Players with fight and Championship experience.
We were promoted as Champions.
This summer we signed players with decent stats from around Europe with no Championship experience and not much fight.
I admit I went into this season feeling positive and excited and expected us to be mid table possibly challenging for Top6
In hindsight it looks as if our transfer strategy was flawed. We need a couple of Colback type signings to fight for points.

Warnock was given a huge amount of money to spend to build a promotion battling squad, way more than Marti's squad has had spent on it.
In 2010-11 we were the second biggest spenders in the division on wages, and had a once in a generation talent in Adel Taarabt (who was only with us because of his own flaws) to make the difference between being another side challenging for the top 6, and one that was comfortable champions.

In answer to the OP, Warnock didn't sign Helguson, he was already at the club when he took over but was out on loan at Watford. |  |

Warnock was also able to add strikers as back up like Clarke and Rob Hulse. And when his team began to wane a bit, he brought in Routledge, Ishmael Miller, and Tommy Smith. That's after he'd already loaned in Kyle Walker. Just... wow. [Post edited 11 Oct 2024 11:06]
