Deadline day 5pm on 09:45 - Mar 27 with 4322 views | EllDale | Gateshead signed experienced forward Frank Nouble from Yeovil earlier this week. I suspect he’ll be in a hotel up there though, it’s not the easiest of commutes!

But we could speculate to accumulate, IF we can win the FA Trophy semi and then onto the final, we have could net £100k of winnings and ticket sales etc.....that would put a hole in the pitch costings. But right now it's big IF, the way we are shapping up.

The fact we haven't replaced Waller ("popped" hamstring) and Bird (unspecified but "serious" foot injury) is of grave concern. I still live in hope that we indeed actually have brought in players for those positions and someone is adding to the drama by waiting for a big reveal. I expect to be disappointed, however.

I think Jim needs to be careful about making excuses around budgets. Last year we spent just shy of £1m on the playing budget and the Board said they would increase the budget this season to give us a fighting chance of achieving the play-offs. Cameron Odgen then did a BBC Manchester interview before Christmas and he said they had added to that budget to help Jim with the injury challenges. I wouldn't be surprised if we were spending c£1.5m or more this season on the playing budget. We have certainly gone through an awful lot of players. Is £1.5m enough? I would think it is. There are half a dozen league two clubs whose playing budget is c£1.5m in a list I saw yesterday. It is a decent budget for a club with less than 3,000 paying customers. Owdum, York and Barnet may be spending more given their income, but Halifax, Gateshead and Altrincham almost certainly are not. One final point. We have a history of bringing academy players through to train with the first team and be given chances. I know the academy has gone and been replaced with a youth team set up, but is there anybody good enough to be given a chance? We never hear anything. [Post edited 28 Mar 12:47]

On that last paragraph, what has happened to the 3 that signed pro deals? Dunlop, Mann and Bailey was it? I seem to remember one of them going out on loan but otherwise they've disappeared off the face of the earth, not even appearing in the National League Cup [Post edited 28 Mar 13:44]
