It took until the sale of Joe Rodon before we were on anything like an even keel.

Bad management more than asset stripping. Newport are in massive financial difficulties and looking for investment, is there a pattern.
| Former Swansea City boss reveals alarming '£100m black hole' he found at club on 11:42 - Jan 6 with 1449 views | Fireboy2 | The question is, why was there a 100 million black hole? When we were nowhere near the biggest spenders in the PL and we got a decent amount from them every season. I get that the bigger clubs generated alot more but looking at who we brought in over thise 7 seasons, you wouldn't think that they would have broke the bank. The only reason, if its true (remember who is the reporter on this piece) is poor management of finances. | | | |

Chuck in Bony, Borja Baston, Leroy Fer and countless others and that parachute payment is gone before Christmas.

Plus money committed to paying off previous transfer fees. Jenkins was a fairly shrewd financial custodian before the takeover. Once he'd cashed in he couldn't have cared less and spent like a sailor on shore leave.

The fact they were done in the same same season is even more shocking, add in Clucas at £16m. Jenkins really did destroy us at that time

They're the headline acts, but really the whole team was being paid too much, with no relegation clauses built in for anyone.

It's very easy to spend other people's money. It just emphasises the complete lack football business knowledge of the owners at that time.

| Former Swansea City boss reveals alarming '£100m black hole' he found at club on 14:07 - Jan 6 with 1153 views | EagleEye | Any relegated club or manager of a relegated club could argue that there is £100m black hole the season immediately after relegation. At the time that was around the value of the income to EPL teams from TV, league position prize money, etc. Relegated sides would receive around £100m over 3 seasons Our owners were only interested in re-couping as much money as they could from their purchase. They sanctioned the sale of any players that would bring in a half decent transfer fee & reduce the wage bill. That said, Potter made a decent job of it given the circumstances. I wouldn’t be a bit surprised if he felt duped about the state of resources available when he arrived. Still he has done pretty well out of it | | | |

Eagle that is what come to my mind but why does every other , well nearly every other just relegated side get to keep a very competitive squad for two seasons? Look at Leeds , Southampton, Burnley all the bouncers really. The black hole we need confirming if it was an additional amount or just what every other club goes through.

The recruitment over the last season n the Prem was very poor. We spent a lot of money on better facilities but seemingly very little on scouting and recruitment

Clueless most definitely. They kept us afloat whilst trying to recoup as much of their investment as they could. Few, if any of our managers since relegation, would say the were backed with any ambition by the previous owners

Every manager could say that they were backed to the best of the clubs ability and then some, which would be true. I'd have thought we'd be long past the point where people would've been making excuses for the likes of Russy by claiming that he wasn't given ample time and funds to succeed but apparently not. He had everything he needed to make the playoffs just like Cooper did. One managed it, the other screwed up royally. [Post edited 6 Jan 16:59]

Cooper was backed for 2 season with very expensive loans and failed twice. Martin was backed for all but 1 window, and even then he was able to recall the top GS from league 1 back into the squad only to not play him. Duff was backed but the signings were awful Potter at least was handed the best batch of youngsters we've produced and i am sure if he'd stayed we'd have gone close the following year also. However even before Jason and Steve came in, we made bad decision after bad decision following the sacking of Monk (Some would argue that employing Monk was the start of the bad decisions)

Those four alone raised around £50 million in total and also got us points on the pitch.

I can remember it being said that contracts had relegation clauses built into them and being horrified when it was clear that they didn't. I had visions of dropping down divisions like after the relegation from Division 1.
