| RAF Fairford on 10:02 - Oct 5 by Boundy | If a combined proffesional army/airforce cannot protect its assets within an armed secure facility againgst infiltrators then what hope is there for the men/women/child living without those protections |
I used to live near there, the base is over 1200acres. It is surrounded both by countryside and villages. Head North out of Fairford and the whole base is overlooked. Planes taking off and landing fly over a number of villages and towns. I was stood in a field in Kencot when a fully loaded B52 went over, it was incredibly low, you could hit it with a shotgun. There is no hard cover for planes at Fairford, they are simply parked in the open air. We used to joke about the highly secret stealth bomber parked on the apron visible to all that drive by. Originally built for WW2, it is not really suitable for the type of warfare we have seen in Ukraine, where drones have destroyed planes parked in the open. Much better to have enormously valuable assets in a desert air base surrounded by nothing. | |
