“Support” last night 07:33 - Feb 14 with 4217 views | PatfromPoole | Unfortunately quantity does not equate to quality. Surrounded by absolute tools last night who think that singing “Football in a Library” and “School in the Morning” to Bristol fans constituted support and humour. It did neither. Sadly the team mirrored this last night. We were due a bad one, I guess. Need to pick it up again on Friday, on and off the pitch.

“Support” last night on 15:27 - Feb 14 by franniesTache | songs we (as a group) have tried to use in recent years that would've been original Dock of the bay (adapted for the city of Southampton) There she goes by the La's (for Djeneppo) Another Saturday night by Sam Cooke (about our fans and having a laugh) Come on Eileen for Liveramento Sugar Sugar by the Archies for Tella Raspberry Beret by Prince for KWP Dedicated follower of fashion by the Kinks (to take the piss out of other fans) Psycho Killer by the Talking Heads for Romain Perraud (yeah Pat you sing it but we came up with it ( ) 500 miles by the proclaimers for adam/stuart armstrong I'm sure there were more too but i can't remember them. Not a single one caught on sadly. Instead most people nicked a song from elsewehre |
I think the main reason your songs don't take off, and this is to your huge credit, is that you tend to avoid like the plague the pubs pre-match that the LYNX deodorant avoiding oddball fraternity tend to "grace" with their presence at away games, preferring more refined hostelries. And again, to your credit, you turn up at games too late for a session of Concourse Karaoke. These seems to be the most likely opportunities for these songs to take off. I fear that we are stuck for now with songs about libraries, sheds and Pompey.

i can be accused of many things, but like pat not being loud is not one (though singing in tune is definitely a struggle for me).

“Support” last night on 08:52 - Feb 14 by SonicBoom | We looked lethargic from the start and played at walking pace for most of the first half. We also uncharacteristically gave the ball away a lot in simple situations. But hey ho, the run is over. We had to lose eventually. Maybe there will be a little less pressure now the run has ended. |
To me it felt like the unbeaten run had become a bit of a target painted on our backs, kept getting mentioned in our press conferences and equally in those of our opponents, especially pre-match. In some ways this made us into even more of a scalp worth claiming especially away from home, as if we are not under enough pressure, that stat just added an extra bit on top. In some respects I’d liken it to the 76/77 season away from home where we were definitely the prize scalp in the old Div 2 as we were the FA Cup holders and everyone had an extra incentive to beat us especially in front of their own fans. As you say, the run is over now so we all move on. To plagiarise the old saying, the run is dead, long live the run.

Know what you mean. Watching it on TV last night and I was wondering at times in the 1st half where our support was, contrast last night with Millwall away for example where you’d be forgiven for thinking we were the home team if just listening to the game.
“Support” last night on 17:07 - Feb 14 with 1062 views | LondonSaint | Went to the game, was sat in the Lansdowne with Bristol fans. Thought our fans sounded great. Loud, and kept going even at 3-0 down. Bristol fans, on the other hand, largely silent until 2/3-0 up. Was amused to hear the grumbles of City fans around me who were complementing our support, albeit through gritted teeth.

Fair enough, must be how the acoustics came across on TV then as it was fairly quiet until they scored. Did hear some Saints support and yes after their 1st and 3rd in particular but it didn’t come across that well from what you have said happened live at the ground. | | | | Login to get fewer ads

“Support” last night on 14:30 - Feb 14 by franniesTache | Dinlow behaviour is try hard, we've always sung a bit about pompey but it's literally every song, i think it was Millwall away this season i got bored and counted it, and every single song bar OWTS that was sung mentioned the skates. That's just border line obsessive. Also that "library" crap is just dumb, it usually bares no relevance to the game/ground, and even if it did why would you want them to be loud. It's not even strictly an age thing, the younger lads who travel with us find it embarrassing too. I get we're going to copy other fan bases, i've given up on the idea we could be original, but it'd be nice to actually sing about the club or the city, and show pride in that instead of play acting hating pompey (which is even more embarrassing given most wouldn't even go there for a derby) |
I honestly feel that if your club actually won something, the fans would start singing more about your club. I bet you had a few songs about your club back in the seventies

Ironically our support isn’t quiet. I think I’d actually prefer quiet to the inbetweeners crap they come out with. Mind you your lot are pretty much exactly the same, even down to the same songs. Basically modern football fans are mouth breathing dins

Seconded. If they ever get back into Europe, now we are outside the EU, the bell ringer would have to be transported to away games in a crate and would need a pet passport. Probably wouldn’t get back into the UK without a ton of paperwork and at least six months in quarantine 😀

It's the same everywhere. And look at all those empty seats at Millwall. Hardly fans rallying round to support their club. Saints fans are better than most and some of the most loyal around. I would certainly agree that there is wider problem in society, not just football (no imagination, me, me, me, got to have a rival etc etc). But back in our day...

“Support” last night on 21:52 - Feb 14 with 733 views | felly1 | I could hear our fans watching it on telly last night. Martin praised them after the game for sticking with the team. I get where Franniestache is coming from though. Not so much the digging at the younger kids but I really do wish we had a just a couple more really loud catchy songs that we could call our own. Aside from OWTS I do like the odd times when nearly everyone joins in for a loud n proud COYR. Not original but I reckon it lifts the players.
