I’ll never forget our glorious victory.

You cannot reason a person out of something they were not reasoned into.

I was there. Great atmosphere by our fans and we played expansive football which was the opposite to what we had played most of the season (dull and boring). A perfectly good goal disallowed. You are probably right Nick that the Van Dijk incident had an impact. But, despite the outcome it was a memorable experience.

I went and to this day ive never seen our goals.

I went up with a mate and his dads mates. Thoroughly peed off, a couple minute or so to go to half time and us losing 2-0, we went and got a beer. Just as we got to the bar, saints got 1 back. My mate then bought about a dozen or so beers for his dad and his dads mates. They never showed so we were saddled with all this beer! While drinking a few we then missed the equaliser at the start of the 2nd half

Yes, I was there at the front of the Saints end. I still can't forget that awful moment Puel subbed Gabbiadini, who was having the game of his life, when it seemed inevitable he would score again.. After that you could see the United players' heads lifting and the game turned in their favour. I count that as the worst substitution ever made by a Saints manager.

As others have said, the atmosphere was good and the prevailing mood was that Saints were going to win until that happened. There were some similarities to the '79 final, which I was also at. Saints' fans were tremendous that day and even had part of the Forest end.

Yeo, when United got the late winner, my youngest was 11 and was convinced we were going to win (hebhsd only ever known relative success!). It was as if someone has filleted him and he collapsed in a heap! I could hardly help him as it was how I felt as well

The United fans there have probably all but forgotten it, but we are all still gutted, and yeh, we loat it when Vardy took out VVD

Yes, also at both games. Nick Holmes scoring a decent goal late on to get back to 3-2 and distinctly remember him geeing others on to go for that 3rd which didn't come. Great day and atmoshere that I can remember as well, and look at that Wembley pitch!

Re the United 2017 final, that to me will always be remembered for the goal that should have been and you never know, we coud have had some silverware that year if Gabbie's goal had been given and not for Ibrahamaic getting that late winner. Great day out though

Spot on grumps.

To this very day I’ve never felt so bad about a Saints result and that includes two 0-9:drubbings.

Big Lawrie got much more right than wrong but not that day..

Why he played an obviously injured and unfit Steve Williams when Alan Curtis was available remains a complete mystery to this very day.

A feeling made worse when Everton strolled past Watford in the final a few weeks later.

Same here Grumps, never forgiven Adrian Heath for that last minute goal. Absolutely gut wrenching , Probably why there was so much agro on the pitch afterwards. 😡

Whilst ive never been as disappointed, the cup final came very close though

Decent day out though, my missus was incredulous when I told her id spent a monkey on a new coat to wear to the game

Went back up to London a couple of weeks later and still saw Frannie Benali stickers in random places at Waterloo station and on the underground

Yep I went the 2nd most gutted I’ve ever been after a game, train back absolutely rammed with equally devastated Saints fan and one stupid Irish woman who kept banging on about us doing well for a small club, I wanted to push her off the train.

Most gutted was after Man U relegated us, I was thrown out of at least 3 establishments after that, I was extremely angry. Thankfully I’ve mellowed a bit now.

Yep, we had a great spot right behind the goal. Cracking day out but we should’ve won.

Where did those stickers originate from. I've seen one on a cruise ship recently on a fire exit sign on the other side of the world and generally everywhere!

Yeah, I think the 2005 relegation has to be the lowest ever. as we'd been up for so long (25 plus years ish?) Yes, felt down after the Cup Semi's and Finals but they weren't totally unexpected and they are after all one off games.
Relegation however is totally different. Last season's was not a surprise and being honest who thought we'd make a go of it when back up. Hand on heart not many. And when we went down to League One was disappointing but again, due to the finances and point reduction not unexpected
But the 2005 was awful and was noted at work when someone tried taking the pi55 and making a joke of it to "cheer" me up. I nearly got the sack or my reaction ..........

I think it was a social media thing (god I sound old) #benaliontour

Seen loads on the marina in Vilamoura whilst on holiday

My brother works at Waterloo station and he told me they were everywhere when he went back into work on the Monday after the game

One of my mates had loads of them, and some Fred Kemp ones for some bizarre reason and stuck loads up in Weathespoons in Holborn
