I thought Colback had a excellent game today , easy my man of the match , some of his passes were sublime. Well done Jack and I don't think he got booked , which is a miracle considering the useless Ref we had!!

AND WHEN I DREAM , I DREAM ABOUT YOU AND WHEN I SCREAM I SCREAM ABOUT YOU!!!!!

Sorry to jump in here but I was also of view that we shouldn’t give him a new deal. But doesn’t it come down to wages and whether he’d be happy for more of a back-up role in the squad. Isn’t he a perfect to bring on to see games out and to occasionally start when we have injuries and suspensions? I can’t remember the games now but he has come on and done that role very well in games this season. We cannot have him next season as a starting role but I think as cover he’d be good……wages dependent of course.

100% - It is basically down to wages and not playing ability. He is well good enough for our Rangers team and not as as a back up.

Thank you Pedro......not a stats man myself but I find the passing, whom posters moan that we are not good at......79%!!!

Are you a 'ginger' supporter??

Overall, since he has been here, I've been disappointed by Colback but thought he did play well on Saturday. When he is playing well, he does offer a presence in midfield that we need.

Very valid point.

Maybe on a (klaxon alert) pay-as-you-play deal?

Difficult to get him to agree pay as you play if he’s a back-up though.

He’s definitely good enough to start but you can’t go into the season with him pencilled in as the starter due to injury record. That’s why I’d just be open with him and say, his role would be much reduced but important and so reduced wages.

It's a cunning plan, James.

"Why do you think his 'work-rate and effort are inconsistent and questionable'??"

It's just my view, Gazz. I've watched him over years.

1) I don't think he shows enough for the ball when the backs have it, in fact I've often seen him hide behind oppo players.

2) He can (sometimes) be lazy tracking back. For instance, when my friends and I were watching the Boro game, we noticed the period between 47:20 and 49:20. My friends were at the match. I wasn't.

But we all commented that Colback is capabale of these periods where he simply switches off and trots around the place, and - put simply - can't be arsed.

Perhaps he was taking a breather. He is 35.

And that's not flippant. Running around a football pitch for 90 mins is hard enough work for someone ten years younger. All but the most athletic of players have to take a breather at some point in the game, but mostly we don't notice because we're watching the action.

Poll: QPR to finish 7th or Brentford to drop out of the top 6?

Another one who doesn't understand!!!!......What are this 'free passes'??? What does that mean??? Yes, he is a 'hot head', not this season though. The penalty was very debatable. Don't know if he has created any goals tbh. Stas eh, use them however you want to your advantage - I watch the game and form an opinion.

Yea he may be costing a bit. I would suggest anyone with his experience would 'cost a bit'.

Big question - Why does MC pick him whenever he is fit & available?? I will answer that one for you!!! Because he does a good job for the Team.

What was debatable about the penalty against West Bromich (Middlesbrough didn't have one)?

He pulled the player back when the ball wasn't even going to him.

Absolutely.

Would be a travesty. He has the odd good game but somehow gets a massive number of free passes compared to others. He's only completed eight full matches this season (if you include minutes played) yet still managed to get sent off twice (out of our 3 red cards) and give away a pen (we've only conceded three all season).

He's not created one big chance.

Statistically he's our 23rd performing player per average performance: worse than Celar, Madsen and even Ashby, and the pelters they get....I know stats aren't everything but, really.

He's probably one of our most expensive players too. We have to do better than that next season. I'm sure there will be younger, ex-prem , just as grizzled, and wilier experienced old pros coming onto the market.

Tbf though he is directly responsible for us having two extra points, with his (relatively) late winner v Blackburn. Which may be pertinent as we have started throwing glances over our collective shoulders recently.
My view on his performance on Saturday, may be contrary to most, in that is just serves to frustrate me that he doesn't produce this level more regularly. This is a collective observation of the whole team, not just Coleback. If we had played against Boro as we played against Leeds, there is a real possibility we would have got something from the game. The inverse is also true, we would have got a tonking by Leeds if we had produced the level of commitment we showed at Boro. They are professional footballers , they are not allowed to adopt an al a carte attitude to when they will give it their all, and when they can't really be arsed.

I'm not saying he hasn't contributed. Just not enough to justify a new contract given his age. You'd expect any midfielder to score at least one goal across an entire season. I just have to correct my earlier post which is down to Sofascore saying he had one red card and one yellow to red, this was confusingly presented but Transfermarkt shows it as one red card in total. But that red card was potentially resposible for us losing points, as was the penalty.

I think he looked better on Saturday because he had Edwards doing the running for him. This wasn't available in the first half at Middlesbrough which is why I think we were so overrun.

But my main issue is he's hardly been available to play and his age won't improve that.
