| Andy Andy, don't drink Shandy on 17:12 - Sep 24 with 1291 views | Clive_Anderson | Would love a pint at the game, sadly everyone else would be allowed one too and a good percentage would act like morons. There is a good reason it's allowed at rugby and cricket and not at football, although test matches seem to be going in that direction too in the last few years. | | | |

Far more 'interesting' than football (but yes crowds would undoubtedly be down if no booze. That says more about the UK's social habits and booze problems than it does about the sport though) [Post edited 24 Sep 13:15]

Test cricket is the best sport in the world. I disagree these days the match are generally over in 3 days or less. Years ago the match could have had all 3 outcomes going into the 5th day. Then it's was a battle of wits and mental strength between the batsman and the bowlers . Creating an interesting and exciting finish. Recently their was a test match with 19 wickets in the first day. Most of the second day was rained off and it finished before tea on day three. Not uncommon these days for one team to scorevover 400, while the other team are out for 150 having to follow on. Where is the interesting sport in that. Who is going to buy ticket for the 5th day of a test match. Even the last Ashes series was no contest. . So sorry but give me a last minute winner everytime

For those on here who went to games pre-ban, how was it then? Especially in the terracing era? Was it a constant soaking then? |
I was drinking in the Loft for the beam-back of the Oldham play-off semi first leg but can't say if it was officially sanctioned or not. Tickets to the actual game were like rocking horse shìt.

Careful now. Qualifying for a major tournament first would be a definite step in the right direction.

Keep it as it is. |
It happens a lot at cricket too.You put your bag or coat down under your seat and they get drenched because some clown behind is too drunk to keep his beer in the plastic glass. And the beer snakes are no fun to be sitting under either. It’s a no from me.

I’m 62 and don’t need to get showered with Carlsberg when we score. Didn’t do the ice bucket thing, because I’m not SAS; I just don’t like drinks over me mush or head. It’s an age thing 😉

| Andy Andy, don't drink Shandy on 00:58 - Sep 25 with 751 views | numptydumpty | I get about five or six blokes where i sit, leaving for half time about ten minutes before the interval. They usually walk in around five minutes into a game and similarly after five minutes of the second half. Leave five or ten minutes before the end too. This will just increase human traffic during the game. Doesnt seem a point to doing this for me, and appears a gimmick a la Trump paying everyone $5000. Wont change my vote either way.... | |

An age thing, or a carlsberg thing? Maybe we need a poll, if you are going to be drenched in beer, which beer would it be? Locally I drink Kaneens Keeshal, a lovely pint of golden, but it doesn't mean I want to tell the wife I had a golden shower while I was out, and that's why I'm a bit sticky and stinky.

I'm not disagreeing but what's viewed as "ghastly" over the canapés at a dinner party often becomes much more socially acceptable once the cheese and port has gone round a couple of times.

Generally find at cricket that the drunken beer spillages and beer snakes mainly happen in certain stands, for example at Headingley in the Western Terrace. They even market that stand - "Split into three zones, Blocks A and B are the Fanzone where we welcome those who wish to come in fancy dress. The favoured area of the Barmy Army, we also welcome large groups of friends who may want to enjoy the party atmosphere as much as the cricket." There are also a couple of other stands where no alcohol is allowed, so you can choose what you want.

Honestly see nothing wrong with how it works atm - the people who are desperate for a beer can go and get one. If you’re willing to sacrifice watching some of the game in favour of a pint (when you’re only in the ground for 2 hours max) then I think that’s a fair price to pay imo. Also, football ground pints are generally awful 😂 Post-COVID, crowd etiquette at things like gigs and the cinema has got insanely bad, so by proxy I’m foreseeing carnage like pints lobbed over people “for the bantz” happening more often than it doesn’t. Maybe I’m in the minority, but I don’t think this is an issue that needs fixing.

Unfortunately for me the only way to guarantee test tickets is to sit in the barmy army section at the Oval.I could become a Surrey member again for £285,but I wouldn’t use it apart from getting test tickets, and then you’d still have to buy them on top of your membership fee,so definitely not a good option for me. The pissheads only really come out after the tea interval though, but the last 30 minutes of play is interrupted by beer snakes and people going to the toilet every few minutes.
| Andy Andy, don't drink Shandy on 17:38 - Sep 25 with 175 views | daveB | It is mad that you can buy beer in the ground but just can't drink it in your seat. I get clubs and police would rather people were not drinking during the game but it being illegal is probably a bit outdated now. If they change the law clubs don't have to do it, like safe standing you consult the fans of your club and make a decsion. | | | |
