Some interesting bits of history combined with some hilariously obvious AI generated slop

I thought that only applied to self-made slop.

Not sloppy seconds slop!

It was the endless references to 'QP-R' that got me.

Got to say though (ignoring the misplaced visuals) not a bad summary of the LR situation for those not in the know.

Notwithstanding the 'sloppy' elements, I thought there was some good content in there.

The most interesting claim was @1:30 where it said QPR bought the freehold for Loftus Road in 1948 along with 39 neighbouring houses (which were then sold in the 1950's.)

This claim about us owning neighbouring houses was a new one on me. Of course the content wasn't all it might have been and that might not be true. I would be interested if anyone could verify it.

We certainly did own a number of properties around the ground. They were bought with the intention of expansion, but had to be sold to keep the club afloat.
Somewhere I have newspaper articles from the time that go into more detail......Edit...details below from one 1948 article....

THE GROUND IS THEIRS FOR £26,250

Queen's Park Rangers, as part of their long term planning, have completed the purchase at a cost of £26,250 of their ground, together with the land of 39 near-by houses.
Rangers' eventual object is to make a vast stadium of the Loftus Road ground, with stands on all four sides.

Looking at aerial photos of the time I think the 39 properties would have included all on Loftus and Ellerslie Road which adjoined the ground.

Dunno how reliable all the stuff actually in the video is, but having flicked through to the 1980's and beyond, I saw no mention of the 1967 episode below:

https://www.beesunited.org.uk/

Quite an oversight.

To be fair that is a very significant oversight.

Some of the houses they owned were used as players houses for a while.

I have seen the future

Our club's economic sustainability will be resolved forevermore by ourselves running a serious project along the lines of "Homes under the Hammer" with the South Africa Road estate redeveloped a la White City Living !!

Any interested parties wishing to participate and help the club in this way, please contact Connor in the QPR Box Office, any office weekday opening times...

Stop posting AI slop.

The fact checking organisation Full Fact has been researching the accuracy of answers given by AI chatbots. Their initial findings are here:

https://fullfact.org/ai-benchm

Here's an introduction to their study and some key takeaways:

"We’ve spent the last few months asking five leading AI chatbots the same questions every day. It’s just the start of our project to benchmark the output of these AI models, to help ensure they operate in the public interest.

We’ve found some really interesting and concerning trends. The chatbots often give good answers; but when they don’t, they still answer with complete confidence. So how do we know what to believe?

Just a few examples: proposed rules not yet in force, such as using bank cards as voter ID during elections, were reported as law; outdated figures on levels of asylum support were presented as current; and plausible but incorrect statistics on the number of migrants arriving in the UK were constructed from accurate data.

In the next phase of the project we’re going to be asking questions in a variety of ways, and hinting at political preferences, to see what impact that might have on the answers AI provides.

Over time, we want to build a shared evidence base on how leading AI chatbots behave in practice, as they evolve. This extraordinary technology should work for everyone, in the public interest, and independent assessment from a charity like Full Fact is one way to help make that happen".

I was already skeptical about AI, due to its inaccuracy - I asked it one question, a tricky football one, and the answer turned out to be totally wrong, the vast amounts of power and water data centres are using (an AI powered web search uses 5x the electricity of a standard one) and all the jobs it will take. That's before we even get onto the subject of humans losing control.

Clearly, it has a big role to play but it needs to be used carefully and appropriately, with human oversight.

"Things had started becoming increasingly desperate at Loftus Road but QPR have been handed a massive lifeline and the place has absolutely erupted. it's carnage. It's bedlam. It's 1-1."
