Justin Obikwu 16:07 - Oct 25 with 14790 viewscpgerber

I know he has played for the dev squad recently - any reports on how he did? Its a bit like asking someone to describe the invisible man, but I am really keen to know if there is any prospect of him breaking through into the 1st team or why is he just warming the bench every week.

Odd that he didn't get minutes against Derby or Swansea. Indicates to me that Kolli has played himself back into favour and his development is higher priority now.

Assuming Burrell and Lloyd fit and firing by then, perhaps Obikwu should be loaned out in January. But who would take anyone on who hasn't kicked a ball in a year, so unless he plays between now and then, even that door is closed.

Again, Kone's touch and control were bloody awful last night. Frankly, at 23, you can't teach this stuff so I remain of the view that he has three jobs: keep fit; bash up the oppo's CHs a bit; and just goal hang, because despite it all, he can finish.

Now, as for 'The Mystery' in just a short cameo, he looked more mobile and seemed to have a better touch than Kone; which isn't difficult! Maybe if he'd been on earlier he might have been more up to speed to take that chance, but he's certainly worth giving minutes, and when we were cruising against Derby and Swansea and maybe going nowhere at Brum and Soton, thise might have been opportunities to give him a run out.

Chair fluffed his first shot as well, not seen anyone slagging him off.
Obikwu needs some minutes, the fact he got in that position in the first place shows he has a brain.
I remember a certain Les Ferdinand getting written off in his first couple of seasons, give the lad a chance to get up to speed.

Agreed. He looked okay. At least he was showing for the ball and trying to make things happen which is more than some of our team yesterday were doing. He was certainly not the only player to miss a decent chance either.

Obviously can’t say from just a brief cameo if he’s the messiah but he looks like he’s got some attributes that could be useful.

It was just nice to see he actually exists

Agreed, really poor effort from Chair and I’m a huge fan of his. Lovely cut back from Kolli and a player of his experience should be a lot more composed in front of goal than that. Whether he scores or not, he should at least hit the target. As for Obikwu, far too early (and we are not overwhelmed with fit/in form strikers) to write him off. Let’s give the lad a chance, if he gets motoring it will be like a new signing.

I think that shot was Chair's first touch off the bench, but yeah, disappointing not to hit the target at least.

It was and I know there is some mitigation in that. But if Lloyd did that we would say ‘typical’. I just think that even allowing for just being on the pitch and long lay offs etc etc, Chair should have enough experience to lean forward and keep the shot low.

Chair had the time to take another touch before getting his shot away. Would have ended in the back of the net rather than row Z if he'd done that.

I thought Obikwu didn't look too shoddy in the time that he was on. I thought Kone's lack of technique was evident. It was quite a quick game for the most part (aided and abetted by the sprinklers) and Kone's technique wasn't up to it. Let's go again on Saturday !

It wasn't just Kone either. I thought Smyth reverted to the run around, lack of contol and no composure or end product, PS, rather than the one who has been so impressive recently.

Hopefully a one off.

A few of our players who were playing really well now looking weary and losing confidence.

I do agree wirh all comments about Obikwu being positive

He was mobile, made himself available and the chance he had, he was in the right position, controlled the through ball and manufactured himself so that he had a clear shot on goal.

Personally, I was encouraged as I thought he would be one that would be permanently injured whether he was injured or not.

Lets hope he gets a bit of confidence from his appearance.

I'd start him oN Saturday with Kone up front, should have scored the chance he got but made a good run to get the chance
