I know he has played for the dev squad recently - any reports on how he did? Its a bit like asking someone to describe the invisible man, but I am really keen to know if there is any prospect of him breaking through into the 1st team or why is he just warming the bench every week.
Odd that he didn't get minutes against Derby or Swansea. Indicates to me that Kolli has played himself back into favour and his development is higher priority now.
Assuming Burrell and Lloyd fit and firing by then, perhaps Obikwu should be loaned out in January. But who would take anyone on who hasn't kicked a ball in a year, so unless he plays between now and then, even that door is closed.
He arrived injured but I think he was probably brought in as a development project, on the assumption that Kolli, Lloyd or both would be out on loan this season.
He wasn't fit for the majority of last term and has come back to find opportunities limited because of a lack of game time since January, whereas all the other strikers are known entities.
Probably not up to speed yet and, with the bloodletting/leeches methodology in sick bay, he might be seen as an option of last resort.
Obikwu actually arrived ready to play and was injured in training. As a pacey forward he was signed in January to replace the injured Burrell, not as a DS player.
Interesting that in his professional career he's never played more than 20 games in a season, which makes it sound like physically he's not quite where he should be; especially if genetically it seems he's more injury prone than your average pro.

Just piping in. development project and development squad are not the same thing.
I reckon a development project is buying someone cheap, making them better (more valuable) and then selling them on.
So, in fact Burrell is very much a development project himself. I also think Obikwu was signed for what he could be, not what he currently is.
From what I can tell Obikwu is tall and fast, so very much a different option to the rest of our squad. I'd imagine the hope is he would kick on and give us a different option for the first team.
In the grand scheme of things I don't think this was an expensive signing on a huge wage, so its minimal risk.
Probably a worse signing that doesn't get talked about is Saito, who was signed for a larger fee and most likely has higher wages. Saito is also similar to other players we already have in terms of position and size.
I don't mind the club making speculative signings like Justin, we will never have a 100% success rate. The key is to sell at the top when one does work, and move on quickly when one doesn't
Although, kudos to the club, as most teams would have bombed Madsen out after that first season and what a player he is now!

Thought we paid around 800k/900k for him so its a. lump of cash for somebody whos played 20 mins since jan for us , wasnt burrell cheaper ?

Burrell was really under the radar, all the noise was about Kone as I recall.
Even so under a million on a player in the Champ is still a punt I reckon. When we are losing £2m a month to tread water its almost money down the back of a sofa innit?
Ridiculous really when Southampton, Burnley, Boro and West Ham are dropping +£10m on one player.
The key part here is QPR need to sell one of our development prospects for a big profit and soon.
I don't think we can rely on pretending we got over a million for Sam Field and market this as progress
Think the thing is nobody can judge him as other than a few minutes on the pitch against Charlton there is nothing to go on. Think Stephan not giving him a run out for last 15 or 20 mins against a side we were 4 nil up against probably says a lot.

It's still possible to make a judgement call even with his lack of minutes. After nearly a year of invisibility, it's clear that Obik-who? is injury prone and unavailable. The club's silence on the matter only compounds the frustration.

Is he injury prone or just not at the right level.
Been on the bench three or four times this season.
But as has been said to not come on when we are winning four and five nil up, even for a brief cameo, probably suggests its unlikely to happen for him here.
We spent 500k allegedly on him. That’s big money considering how careful we need to be with FFP. It would be great to hear from the club what actually is going on.
1. Is he a Development player?
2. Is he just injury prone?
3. Was it a signing the club have got completely wrong?

The comms from the club has been very poor.
I don’t think the club should be putting out information if they think a player isn’t good enough. That would be ridiculous. It would be horrible for the player who’s an employee after all and deserves some degree of care. Also it doesn’t make any commercial sense.
Similarly why say he’s injury prone. Players after all can have a run of injuries and then sort it out so they haven’t got a crystal ball. The injury list itself is a different issue and needs to be resolved.
I would think the comms weren’t doing their job if they put out the kind of messages you seem to want. How is that going to attract other players. Of course they should be transparent about injuries but saying someone is crap would be crazy.
Transfers have always gone wrong at times - you just have to look at the list of players who’ve been on our books that none of us can remember now - but I didn’t want the club for example to say Celar was a massive mistake and he’s crap. Eventually we got something for him which is better than nothing. Sometimes you just have to read between the lines and not get too hot and bothered about it.
