Ramsey wasn't consolidating, he was sending out a team to try and win every week - but just failing to do so.

If he was consolidating, he'd have been playing a mixture of younger and older players, trying to build the core of a team that could be added to next season/January.

Instead he played Henry, Green, Hoillett, Konchesky, Sandro etc etc.

2 wins in 2 months was verging on relegation form though - so i'd say that Ramsey was failing at both stated objectives.

Fine, ok, yeh, you've made that point. Move beyond it and look forward - what are the expectations of the next manager? Do we (the fans) actually know? Does Fernandes and the board know?

The betting field for our manager sums it all up. There are experienced, inexperienced managers on there, lower league, Premier League, coaches and money spenders, promotion specialists and consolidators, long and short terms Nobody fcking knows what we're doing.

My expectations are that the man they pick this time, they stick with for the length of his contract! I don't really care if he's a thoroughly decent man or not, as long as he can do the job.

It Is What It Is !!

Given statements by TF and Les when talking about revised objectives, i'd say the expectations are that we compete for promotion this season surely?

If you looks at the teams in and around the playoffs currently, i'd say that's not completely unrealistic (Birmingham, Reading, Cardiff etc) that we could compete with them - although certainly a challenge.

Regarding the manager the board are winging it as always and don't have any clear idea of who they want! Hopefully Lee Hoos can bring some sanity to the process...

18 months?!?!?

The fans have just hounded out a thoroughly decent man within 18 weeks.

Decent man maybe but he was a pony manager. Be interesting to see how quickly he gets snapped up as the manager for another club. Don't hold you breath though...

Well yes you would think so (re promotion) but now Fernandes is saying we have to lower our expectations. So which is it?

I don't think the club have a clue who or what they want. Until we decide on who the director of football is going to be I think any managers linked are pure guesswork.

Warnock will want the DOF role to be part time and more of an adviser so if he gets it would expect an old school manager looking after all of the football side. If Ferdinand keeps the job would imagine he will prefer a coach

I think he means lower our expectations of how competent we think he is.

After 4 years in charge(or not) he must be the only one left in the club with any expectations.

Might help in the managing of expectations if we knew what the club's are. It was the club that said it would be a difficult season of consolidating, TF who said promotions is everything, then it's him saying manage expectations. If we finish 18th this year and 15th next year but we're going into a final season of parachute payments with a squad that's got half the average age, half the current wage bill and looks well set to have a dig at promotion with three or four decent signings is that success? I'd see that as success, but does he? Do we? Would we tolerate that over the next 18 months to get to that position?

Or is it dig at promotion this year at all costs, big money to spend in January? That's how it's felt over the last couple of weeks.

Kind of important we get this sorted really, both for the atmosphere at games and among the fan base and, most importantly, what sort of manager we're about to appoint.

Surely a question for the Fans Forum is

"what are/should be our expectations?"
OR to paraphrase your opposition previews - short , medium and long term goals.

Just tweeted
#QPRFansForum I can manage my expectations. But it would help if the club gave me some idea what theirs are. Short, medium and long.

I bet it doesn't get read out.

The party line is that the goalposts shifted after transfer deadline when we couldn't move on the big hitters in the squad as expected. Personally I think the club has been confused or disingenuous about its intentions all summer. If we were truly committed to reshaping the club then the deals were there to be done. The perceived shortfalls in estimations (and we're talking like £20m instead of £25m) would easily have been mitigated by having the proceeds in hand early in the window, plus a focused squad without their minds set on playing elsewhere. We had a great opportunity to start afresh, clean slate, and instead we ended up with a bodge job - with predictable results.

Perhaps not popular to say this, but if you read the tweets in the context they were made, i.e in response to tweets and stories about them selling up, getting out, failure to live up to promises on ground / training ground. He complains no club has been more transparent and lots of work has been done etc etc Then you might just draw the conclusion that he's not talking about the 1st team. Also he uses the word "manage" not "lower"

To manage expectations is to look at the bigger picture longer term
To lower expectations is to expect less

Wow, it's like being back in school. Maybe I should have listened more and swapped Premier League stickers less.

So what, exactly, are we managing our expectations of then? Because, again, there's only one person talking up training grounds, youth academies, stadiums etc and it's not the supporters who have mostly long since given up on any of it ever happening.

No but these things do take time, the training ground is a good example, as its a stick you regularly hold up to beat them (and have done in your post with the training ground has not happened yet, not because they are selling a load of BS but because its a complicated planning process with a well organised set of local objectors that have used every trick in the book to delay

Who's the person who keeps setting unrealistic dates for training ground completion? Who's the guy who put an unrealistic date on a new stadium, and went round pubs and shops handing out leaflets, and launched exhibitions about how it would look, before wqe even own any of the land? Who's the guy who says he's "all about the academy" and wants to see youth players coming through?

It's not the supporters doing this, and yet it's the supporters now being told to manage expectations. Most of the supporters I speak to know OOC is highly unlikely to happen and know Warren Farm is mired in red tape. It's Fernandes making these outlandish comments, statements and promises that raise expectations in the first place. It was Fernandes who said "promotion means everything" not the supporters.

The problem is as much that nobody actually believes Warren Farm will be built, and won't believe it until there are diggers on site with men in hi-vis and hard hats pointing at things. Are we any nearer to that date?

Have any funds been set aside to make an initial payment to a principal contractor to start works?

It's all quite comical really. A week ago Ramsey was sacked for not living up to the boards expectations and a few days later it's the fans who expect too much.

Plenty of projects have planning permission that have never and will never be built. There are whole city centres scarred by brownfield sites where developers have changed their mind, look at Bradford or Nottingham and see what Westfield have done there.

Before a shovel goes into the ground at Warren Farm money has to be set aside for its construction, where a principal contractor will require a commitment before starting work. Where does this fit in with relegation, FFP, Tony and Co writing off £180m etc etc? Manage your expectations eh.

"Harlington looking good" Tony tweeted the other day. What does that mean? Which part of Harlington is he looking at? My grandmas alotment, the A4 Bath Road, McDonalds, which part exactly?

Or is he being cryptic and actually saying "prepare for me to decide we don't need Warren Farm after all". Cynical I may be but what else do we have to go on?

Not necessarily translation, but certainly context (big problem with Twitter is context) and that is something we see everywhere in life be it politics or newspapers where a quote can be easily taken out of context to fit the writer / readers grand narrative .

And no I suspect they did not have a crystal ball about the training ground and the tenacity of the objections. And yes guilty as charged over the Old Oak new ground in a couple of years.

Things change, if you've ever run anything or managed any kind of project big or small you know you have to set out a detailed plan at the beginning and you know the chance that everything going according to the plan is about zero and it will often be constantly fluid

Fernandes is quick to talk about all the things that he knows supporters want to hear, to talk about youth, training grounds, stadiums, etc. He says these things because it means everyone loves him and sings his name. Then when he doesn’t deliver in the kind of time frame HE has suggested — it’s our fault for having expectations too high.

It started from day one with the money off that turned out to be club vouchers and has continued with everything else that’s been promised and not delivered. I honestly couldn’t give a flying fck about a new stadium for example, but don't throw out soundbites to gain popularity and then look at other people as being unreasonable when they ask questions.

And therefore you play it nice and calm and low key, talk about future aspirations and hopes. You don't say "we'll be in our training ground for 2015/16" for instance, or "we'll be in our new stadium for 2018" for instance. And you especially don't say those things and then when they don't happen tell people they need to manage their expectations. Our expectations are just fine mate, it's yours that seem to be all over the place.
